Hi all,

I have just sold my av setup but have kept my Alpine ERA G320 EQ. It has time alignment and a 14 band eq etc. I am looking at replacing my hu with a 9831. Will its internal eq be a good replacement for the 320. I would be happy to sell the 320 if the 9831 makes it redundant or to keep it if sq will suffer without it.

Any thoughts?

i'm confident that a 9835 will cover all the required functions, and given that they're due for replacement in 2 months time, you might find them going cheap around then.

the 9831 uses a different bassengine setup, pretty sure it's got decent time alignment, but not sure if the EQ is "as good" as your current setup.

having said that, reducing the number of items in the signla path is one way to improve SQ, so even if the EQ isn't quite as good, you might find is sounds better overall.

the 9831 should be fine. it features:

*4-channel TA: arguably all you need as the subs by default are at 0ms
*4-band parametric EQ: very good and at least on par with a 14-band graphic EQ; you just have to get used to using 'parametric' instead

my previous comp-setup ran off the processor's 5-band parametric EQ to tune a 3-way active front stage and sub. it did an excellent job.

and i agree strongly with Mr_B on removing that extra component (ie: the ERA). so i think you'd be happy with the 9831.

Thankyou very much to both of you. Heading in tonight to make the 9831 - 9835 choice, this could be tough. I think finances will dictate the 9831.

there have been a few 9815's popping up in the for sale forums, similar functions to the 9835's but no fancy display.keep your eye out! :)
