Hi Guys,

I'm the proud new owner of a Phoenix Gold titanium elite 12 inch sub & custom box. I bought this off another user of these forums and was impressed by the way that it sounded in his car (a subaru WRX). This will be going into my camry sedan in a month or two when I find an amp to power it. It will be fully sound deadened. When listening to this in his WRX it was powered off a phoenix gold Xenon 1200.1 and this was more than enough for me at half volume. I usually wouldn't play it this loud, more at moderate levels. Anyway my question is what is a suitable amp to power this? I think rms power handling is 1200w (correct me if I'm wrong, I don't have a manual with me at the moment). Would I necessarily need this much power out of something like the Xenon? Or would something smaller be adequate? Are there any other recommendations out there at all? What would be your choice of amp and why. Is there anything else that you need to know? Budget is somewhere around $1,500 for an amp, but if it is less than that would be better.

Cheers,

Anthony

for $1500 you'll pretty much score a very powerful monobloc. so you can spend less and should have quite adequate power with 500~800WRMS i expect.

but having an amp more powerful than required may have advantages, including not stressing the amp as much at high volumes: much like comparing a V8 with a 1.3L 4-cyl driving at 200km/h.

i think the xenon amps are excellent. but alternatives would include the JL 1000/1, DD M1, or alpine MRD-M1001. there's also been a couple secondhand tru tech 'hammers' for sale in the forums.

i personally like the look of (sic) the xenon and JL amps, but plenty of good options available.

mmmmmmm, a Ti Elite teamed up with a Tru Tech Hammer.

another I'd consider would be the Zapco 500M or 1100M.

also with $1500 you 'should' be able to talk your way into a Xenon 1200.1

Rest In Peace Adam
