i know.... its surprising how a Focal Be 3 way front end, dual monitor amps and a HXD2 can come a clear 10 points behind the next placed car... as well as being 40 points down on what he normally scores...

Trism, Charlie (and every one else commenting without knowing facts) - Being that Rob & I judged that class I take offence to the tone in which that post appears to have been written. Both Rob and I were very through in our judging of each and EVERY car we judged - as I can confidently say all of the other judges would have been also when judging.
We are unbiased - it is not in our best interests to be biased.
A.) because it would reflect in our credability
B.) because we want to see the BEST cars win at the end of the day.
C.) Niether Rob nor I had a car in the competition
As for "40 points" - whilst I personally dont know what the final scores were (the judges dont know the results until you guys, the competitors, do), must I really remind you that we have stated time and time again that there is a reference set and all cars are referenced to one another to give a final score - this is why are car can easily score well below its normal average at any given event - including but not limited to national finals, dependant on the competition it faces on the day.
I have no doubt what so ever that if given to any other two judges to judge that class and the final standings would have been the same - the scores numerically may have been different depending on where the judges set their reference point (as per many previous threads).
And undoubtedly good quality equipment doesnt guarantee perfect results - no matter who they are owned installed or tuned by. Professional or ammature things can, will & do go wrong on the day for competitors. Be it equipment failures, lost settings or what ever.

I'd advise you think about this before letting your gums flap out of turn again and questioning the ability and credibility of ANY of the CAASQ judges. To compete in CAASQ & to be a member of MEA is a privaledge not a right.

As for the bottle of alcohol give to those involved. This was taken back for safe keeping due to a liquor licencing issue and every one has / will be getting it back AFAIK.

just curious then, what was the reference, who set it, and what were the main flaws with the car?

hey, i wasnt there dude, im not having a go, it jsut seems wierd that someone who spends his days working on audio, and has the most expensive system ended up with such a crud score...

it was a simple question, ill flap my gums all i want... :)

it just seemed rather strange that he was last, i cant see a perfectionist like that letting anything slip...

i never questioned the judges, i just wanted to know what had happened as i expected him to clean up...

:)

it seems u may have jumped to a conclusions kirk ;)

Now, you say you take offence to a tone.

How about myself taking offence to you and fudd coming up to me, and personally attacking me as a person? I quote "you arent allowed here, people from your area arent suppose to be here, go away" and "like i said before people from your area arent allowed here, no actually, people from your house arent allowed here". So not only do you disrespect myself, you disrespect my family? Not only was it from people i had never met before, it was from CAASQ Judges! You are representing MEA, and CAASQ. Now tell me there is no bias there?

Also, "To compete in CAASQ & to be a member of MEA is a privaledge not a right."

we pay $35 a round and $110 for finals...

id like to see you take that "privaledge" away from me when im there waving cash infront of your eyes....

I really can't believe some of the comments in this thread. It's obvious they are misinformed, were not at the event, and are forming their own conclusions.

Need I remind you that some of the things you say can seriously impact on the reputation of a format and an organisation, not to mention criticising the judges credability that has been earnt fairly for a few years now.

In response to some of the specific comments this year ...

The winner of said class (being Bruce Embline or Cyberpunky on these forums) has been in this industry and sound quality competition longer than any other competitor has been into car audio (and in some cases even alive). He also developed this original concept of the format and assists in judges training in Victoria. To say that he is not the most knowledgeable about tuning a car for SQ competition would be an insult. You're all making out that Marty is the bees-knees in car audio - I'm here to say that whilst I have full respect for Marty and his achievements, there are many others out there that know just as much, are just as talented, but don't have high profiles. Many of those in Pro Street this year that actually achieved higher scores fall into that category. I could give you a run down of the knowledge, experience, accolodes and achievements of each and every Pro Street competitor at finals this year. They are certainly not amateurs.

Trism - the comments made to you were you in a joking manor. Do not try to make an issue out of something that didn't exist and make it sound far worse than what really happened.

In regards to the alcohol. Each judge was given a bottle of Jakc Daniels in the nightclub as a token of appreciation. Management of the nightclub informed us that they were not allowed to be on the premises (for being glass, and for alcohol not purchased on the premises). All the judges (except for Rob and Kirk who left before I saw them today) were given their bottles back today. Marty was going to catch up with me today and I would have given him his, I didn't hear from him.

What's not been said so far was that the event was an absolute success. MANY had a fantastic time and it was a very enjoyable weekend, the best finals event yet.

I suggest many of you commenting in this thread (particuarly the ones that weren't even there) back right off, and stop adding fuel to a fire that doesn't even exist.

Finals are finals, there are winners and runner up's. This has been run and won. All in all, many were exstatic with their results and what they have learnt from the weekend. I know many of the NSW competitors and QLD competitors were around at our hotel today listening to the winning or well placing VIC cars and ALL agreed at how good the cars sounded. Perhaps some of what they have learnt today has educated them at what they should be trying to achieve and perhaps even become their new reference.

Sorry to cause sh1t, and continue with this issue, but i can assure you, as you weren't there at the time, they were NOT said in a joking manner, and i was deeply offended by it.

Well then (as the rule clearly state) 'no further correspondence will be entered into', the forums were perhaps not the best place to raise the issue, and you should have come and spoken to me immediately about the issue.

It's dissapointing NSW cars as a whole didn't figure as highly as some of you may have expected at the finals. That's unfortunate and highlights that perhaps there needs to be more state interaction other than at the deciding event of the year. Perhaps the reference NSW has used is not the most accurate on a national level. We're planning to have a NSW vs VIC event early in the year but despite the name of the event, its more a familiarisation day for NSW and VIC competitors to share knowledge and reference points (for both Judges and Competitors).

Finally, there was a few making reference to the monetary value of the equipment in Marty's car. I'd just like to point out that the winner's car in Pro Street has in excess of $30,000 worth of equipment alone. But as we all know it doesn't matter how good or bad, (or how expensive) equipment is, it all comes down to the execution of the installation, the tuning, and the countless hours of refinement that will determine a winning car.

All the NSW guys went done there knowing that all you other guys seem to underjudge cars from up here. Has happned in the past, and im sure, will happen again.

Not taking anything away from those to won classes, or lost them. Im just saying, for whatever reason, a person from NSW never, wins :S

If they were the best sounding cars on the day, they would win.

So are you claiming NSW is deliberately and intentionally scored lower? Why would that happen? What would that achieve. If we were about to do that we may as well just stop CAASQ now - you know, the format we are trying to turn into a national format and keep growing!

Wake up to yourselves.

For someone who is ment to be head of this organisation, you have seemed to take a very rude tone on many of your recent posts ? Are you hiding something ?

If you read what i wrote, I simply said no one from NSW wins. When did i say we were judged worse, or harshly ?

Perhaps you should wake up to yourself and read what people write my friend.

I asked you a question that is all, which you have failed to even acknowledge but instead try to turn it around on me. If you find that rude that is because context is all too often lost in internet posts. It is your fellow state siders who are suggesting foul judging and similar techniques. How would you react yourself if you were in my position.

This is all too similar to what NSW competitors were suggesting after finals last year. For me, it's very disappointing to see these reactions and I personally don't feel it reflects greatly on 'some' of the competitor base.
