After driving my mum's Civic one day and finding it to be disgracefully noisy, I got some paint-on body deadener from Supercheap auto (the brand was septone) and painted it on the parts of the wheel arches that border the cabin. That is, the rear half of the front wheel arches, and the front half of the rear wheel arches. I found that it made a substantial difference to the amount of road noise in the cabin. It was worth the ~2 hours it took to clean and paint the wheel arches.

You guys rekon it would be worth doing the front wheel arches of a ute?

I know they are not in the cabin but its gotta help reduce some noise right?

there are so many other sources of noise in utes (eg: back tray rattling around, coarse engines typically heard through the firewall) so it won't be as effective as in a sedan or passenger vehicle... but it should help a little at least.

might have to give this a go on the van.....might use some on the bottom of the front seats and below the front floor to stop engine noise a bit....as well as the wheelarches.

If your wheel arches have plastic guards in them, i would assume you remove the plastic guard and go for the bordering chassis behind it correct?

yeah it would make sense to deaden the chassis itself rather than the plastic liner.....

A while back i did a very light coat on each front wheel because i didnt have time to take the wheels off.

Just recently though i have taken the F/L wheel off and layed a big coat of Deadner on the wheel arch, and i need to get around to doing the F/L side then ill post pics up.

i have used this in 2 builds now. mainly inside door skins and other hard to reach places. its cheap and seems effective and can be backed up by dynamat. its also a great rustproofer. just be careful not to fill up your drain holes with it (esp in the bottoms of doors) also i found this is a summer job. the bitumen is hard and hence harder toapply during winter. i got some rubber gloves and just slapped on handfuls and then spread it out. mine was from bunnings not supersteep and i imagine the supersteep stuff is more liquidy and easier to apply.

bringing up an old thread, but you can actually thin this down and apply it via an engine degreasing gun and it is much easier to use and you just keep spraying till preffered thickness. Done the complete underside of my commodore this way. more durable than chassis black.

So, I'm going to put dynamat in the doors, but would this paint on stuff be good for the boot? Where the spare wheel goes, just put heaps of deadner on??? (VZ Commodore)
