With the Mercedes Benz Sprinter van, and probably the Vito as well, the stereo's (as most Euro cars do) use the ISO plug.
With the Sprinters (possibly the Vito's, I haven't worked with them), they dont use a 12V accessories feed to turn the stereo on and off.
They use a twisted pair which I assume is a data bus of some sort. the twisted pair is at the base (opposite end of the latch) of the power section of the plug, they are the 2 smallest wires. One is brown, one is brown/red. The brown wire happens to be in the same pin as the ACC feed for all ISO plug equipped aftermarket stereos.

How do I know this?

I wire ambulances (Emergency Transport Technology). We also fit a Windows-based computer to them which comprises of 5 touch screens, a large one in the stereo/pocket section of the upper dash above the heater controls (this is for a 315 series), one in the oxy panel (the panel that covers the right-hand side sliding door apeture where the oxygen fittings are fitted to and so on)
The CPU goes in a small aluminum case underneath the handbrake beside the drivers seat, and the termination box goes under the drivers seat. The computer controls various MOSFET I/O modules, which control all the devices in the car. Each module has like a 6 or 8 B&S cable running to it from a main fuse at a distro under the passenger seat.

The harnesses for all of this are pre-made and we get them from Electra-Loom.

Anyhow, seeing as we ditch the factory stereo for the touch screen, we fit a cheapie aftermarket CD/Tuner in the pocket closest to the floor (under the heater controls), it is a standard DIN space and even has the holes for the tabs on the stereo cage to be bent into.

We just pull the harness down from the factory stereo position and antenna cable, fit the euro to standard antenna adaptor, make the mod to the wiring, the harness that we run has 4 speaker wires and a accessories wire that runs from somewhere under the drivers seat. They have the terminals pre-crimped, we just click them into the ISO plug for the rear speakers that we install.

Anyhow, we just cut those 2 small wires, fit a 2 pin DEUTSCH plug to each side of the wiring so it can be rejoined later, and plug in the accessories wire which has the matching plug (providing you got the male and female right, I think the male goes on the ISO plug side and the female on the car side, cos the new harness has a female plug on it. But yeah.

Once thats done, whack in the cage and slide the stereo in.

And thats how you put a stereo into a Sprinter (and you could probably build an ambulance now too!)

Great post. Would you have a diagram for the stereo ISO plug (car side not head unit side as my OEM unit wasn't working either). I got an aftermarket stereo with same ISO plug as the sprinter (2005).plugged in but no power. Any suggestions? Cheers mate.

heres a quick diagram of what to do

Attached File  New Bitmap Image (3).bmp   877.76K   64 downloads

using a test light earth the clip and touch the tip to the centre of the lighter socket and turn the key on and off accessories....if it flashes on and off with the key solder a wire onto the power wire for the lighter socket, and run it to the pin illustrated.

as described in my original post, these mercedes turn the stereo on and off using the can-bus twisted pair.

Hi. Just wanted to check if you could resend the bitmap. I am unable to open it.
Thanks mate.

not all mercs. my 639 vito has the ACC and CAN wires in the plug... so my radio was a direct plug in -ensuring nothing was contacting the CAN twisted wires. same as my 206... (with the customary euro b+ and acc switch-a-roo of course)
it is my understanding that the upper models (vito and viano - not sure of some/all sprinters) depending on factory optioning, use the MOST system, which entails the characteristics your describing.

2008 Corolla - IDA-X100 - 2x Cadence DCA2500 - 4x Cadence DCW15 - 3 Optima D34M - PB-149.1 - DECEASED

2006 Vito "The Don" - IVA-W205 - 3x Cadence ZRS-9 - 6 Cadence DCW15 - 5 Fullriver SPV70 - PB-148.3 @ 25Hz - DECEASED

1999 Merc C180 - CDA-9887 - AudioSystem F6-380 - Alpine Type X Pro Tweets - Infinity Kappa Perfect 6" Mids - Alpine MRD-M605 - Alpine SBR-S123V - Fullriver SPV70 - FOR SALE w/o stereo.

yeah i noticed this system in the 315 sprinters so maybe its only the sprinters and some vitos like you said, by the way, with the B+ / ACC switcharound, euro has the acc next to the earth wire and B+ up towards the latch of the plug right? or the other way round?
