stick the vanadium in the car with you somewhere rather than in the boot, if this is possible, as the only thing letting your system down last time was the impact from the <200hz range. Getting the sub in the cabin somehow will give you more of this than running those poor midranges at full frequency.

Problem is, the sub ain't too happy playing that high!! It gets a wee bit uncomfortable to the point where it actually sounds more ballanced without it! You might be surprised how much fight those mids have in them when run full range - sure they ain't no sub, but they have more kick in those enclosures then a 4" has any right to have!

That is, unless I can get some magic going!

Only other issue is my upper midrange - I've got to compromise either way. Cross it at 3k and it's clean as day, but there's a significant midrange gap from about 1.8k-->3k and it is really noticable.

The other option is to cross it at 1.6k, in which case the gap is bridged and they are beautifully neutral, but then at high volumes the extra distortion becomes very auduble and you can hear the tweeters starting to strain a little.

Until I rebuilt the pillars (with mids and tweeters in there) I'm going to have to choose my poison more pretty much - I can get alot of it out with EQ (the gap) but not all of it.

If it weren't for the midbass problem (result of being a 4") and upper midrange problem (the latter a result of the mids being off axis) she'd be stunning. Those two flaws are significant enough however to make it flawed!

And dont, for godsake, forget to check your left and your right this time. Write it on your hands if you have to.

Don't worry, that was fixed after judging at the last comp
