hey guys im new to these forums, so first off hi everyone :P
im looking at spending around 2000 bucks on a SQ system excluding install.
what do you reckon would sound great in a 91 Nissan Pulsar Hatch???
yeah yeah i know its a **** car, but i at least want some descent tunes :)
i listen to a wide variety of music from like trance/dance to rnb hiphop.
so i was thinking maybe using 10inch subs?

anyways feedback would be great to what i should put in it.

Thanks

i would split the budget like this...

headunit: $300 (jvc g615, panasonic cq-c5400)
splits: $600 (boston, focal, hertz, morel, diamond audio, pheonix gold)
front amp [2x50-80wrms]: $200 (jaycar, pheonix gold, lightning audio, audison)
sub [single 12"]: $400 (eclipse, digital designs, image dynamics, pheonix gold, vdo dayton, boston)
sub amp [1x300-400wrms]: $400 (jaycar, audison, pioneer, alpine, lightning audio)

that leaves a little for some rear speakers, since i find that with the style of music u mentioned, "surround sound" sounds better (run these off the headunit)

hope that helps give u a start

I agree with th above, but would probably go with a good 4 channel amp, eaiser to connect a single amo and removes the need for distribution blocks etc...
Also cheaper. Earthquake have a 5 channel 130rms x 4 + 400rms x 1 for $550, that is a pretty good amp, cooling fan built in and all the usual protection features.

a good 12 will be as good as a 10in yet will have more output..

the kicker Square (L7) sub's can sound very good in the correct box, but in an incorrect box they will sound ****, just as any other sub.
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

each sub has a specific box design suited to it, to make it sounds its best. your friend probably doesnt have his sub in the correct box.

digital designs are very good sq subs when in the right box AND can also be used in spl designs due to their massive power handling and large cone excursion capability, but of course you can get better sq subs if ur willing to pay more.
pheonix gold, boston and idmax are three good options, but there is also Lotus subs which are very "sq" oriented

IDMAX is way over the $400 you allocated, though...even second-hand you couldn't get one for that price!

DD seem to be more popular with the SPL boys also

I was talking about Spyne's suggestion....

he said $400 for a sub and then he recommended IDMAX as a possible choice....$400 will NOT buy you an IDMAX...

look at the IDQ...nice sub!

my suggestion
head unit-eclipise deck(3434 or other last year model cos the are on sale)
they can play the functions that you need and give you high voltage output(8V).
also, 3 years warranty. i remember they are selling 299 or 399 on sale price.

That is quite a decent budget.

Would allow something like:

HU: Pioneer DEH-P5750MP - $500
Splits: Rainbow CS265 'Profi' - $800
Sub: Image Dynamics IDQ12 - $400
Amp: Response 4x100 - $300
Total:$2,000

You have one big, beautiful saviour here, it's called 'Response' :)

The 4x100 will give you genuine outputs of 2x100w rms to your front stage, and 1x350w rms or so to your sub. Without response, youd need to spend possibly double this amount to get a 4 channel with that kind of power, with decent quality.

This leaves you with $1,700 to spend on your splits, source and sub.

The 5750 is a very nice source unit, is well built, well specified, nice to use (ive had a 5650 for years) and sounds quite nice. As a bonus, it even looks good! A great all rounder. Retails at $570 but getting it for $500 or less shouldn't be a struggle.

This leaves $1,200 to spend on front stage and sub. Plenty :)

First lets find you a really nice set of splits. How about some Rainbow 'Profi' splits? For pure sq, you really can't go wrong with a rainbow product.

This leavs $400 for a sub. Something like a JL Audio 12W3, or an Image Dynamics IDQ12 should be able to be picked up for that price, both being outstanding sound quality subs.

For the $2000 budget, without going second hand, that setup would be mighty hard to beat.
