Well I work in the industry and fit average of 2 Pioneer decks a day for the last 5 years , what you reckon , no offense intended.

8450 is prone to it , only a matter of time before the newer models become old and suffer the same problems.

Temporarily retired

Yeah mate mine is doing the same thing now..
it starts with just not working every now and then then it starts working less..
now it won't ever go on...
i have opened the thing up and had a good look inside.
the ribbon cable doesn't look to have any problems alltho it may have..
if anyone would be able to find out how to fix i'd be very happy.. cos it's annoying the crap outta me!

my last 3 head units have been pioneer, no problem with ribbons.
but I guess it's a volume thing - if you do lots of them, you get a better idea of how many are out there, compared to how many fail.

That said though Shieldsy, yours did cop a pretty hard knock a little while ago so I wouldn't really be suprised if that didn't have something to do with things.

In both cases - it obviously has to turn "on" in order for the face to open. It sounded like the first guy had his unit turning on, but then one the face opened it stopping (and specifically the bottons not working on the front face as a result). Is that what is also happening with yours Shieldsy, or is she just showing no love at all?

i used to have a 8450 and i will never buy one of those stupid two flip face things again. It did exactly what you described after 15 months. $130 later and a new ribbon cable the thing was fixed.
