andrew (nidekcus) tuned my system on his RTA, with next to no experience with it, and after only having ever seen it used at phatt audio on his car, and then having the thing for not even a week he was able to get a really good result for me...

i never touched the systems eq for a whole week, (miricle) and it actually made me think diffrently about how i was listening to my music... i like it loud, but when it sounds so good down low/medium, your willing to accept the comprimise to be in audio heaven..

but any way, im very insterested in this, like others have said, it can teach you about what the reaction is by ear when you up/down certain freq's by a couple db or more....
for in-experienced tuners like my self, that could be a valuable lesson in its self...

i loved the visual interaction with it, knowing exactly what each touch of the eq setting was doing to the response...

like the discussion so far....

BRAD...

if tuning from a laptop running an rta program, would you get really poor quality using an inbuilt mic? how important is it to buy those things mentioned before? whats the point of each one?

thats different ~spyne~....

I mean...that's where an amp usually goes...you're just not seeing it from my point of view...

Yeah I'll bite. I didn't see you guys complaining about the marquee when it started raining.
Next time I don't have to lug all the MEASQ gear 500kms, I might be able to secure the sub box down in position.
And yes, it is now secured.

Not poor quality. You wont get as good a resolution as a proper mic though. Plus, unless you have the correction file, you wont be able to compensate for the mic's precision over the spectrum (important).

The list that Simon mentioned was basically a Microphone (the Behringer is VERY common, and the compensation files are everywhere, also very good quality and cheap), a Power Supply (otherwise, the microphone obviously wont power up), a connection to the computer (otherwise it wont communicate with the computer) and a cable to connect the microphone to the power supply (so it can send the signal, and recieve the power).

Like comparing a Kia to a Merc. Both do the job, one just does it better.
