The only excuse for passive crossovers is their low cost. Their behavior changes with the signal level dependent dynamics of the drivers. They block the power amplifier from taking maximum control over the voice coil motion. They are a waste of time, if accuracy of reproduction is the goal.

It's really interesting to see how his kick panels are actually constructed, if you look in image #5, which shows the kick grilles you'd think they were 45 deg on-axis almost, not flush with the panel.

It's also very intersting to see his diffuser panels mounted over the midranges.

4-layers of Dynamat over the entire interior :P

Yup, I checked this car out ALOT, it really amazes me how 'simple' it looks, but yet how complicated the actual install was.
Everything was worked out exactly, seat placing, angles, the bass trap, waveguides for the tweeters (well, in a way). The tweets fire half into the cabin, and half behind the dash, reflecting it up behind the dash, to come out near the window.

The speakers fire at each other, but the seats were repositioned so as to work in conjunction with the 30deg off-axis response of the GTI's.
Alot of smoke and mirrors in that car, from the 'angled' kicks, to the false centre channel in the dash!

I love this car, and to me, it is the epitomy of an SQ car, unbelievably technical on one hand, and simplistic on the other.

lol, simplistic as in the equipment.

some splits upfront, and he only used the 10" during SQ comps (the 2 x 15"'s were for crankin it, not SQ comps).

SO ye, 5 speakers, thats the simple part. Also, it 'looks' simplistic, thats what I mean, no fancy mouldings in the doors, futuristic install there, just plain, bread and butter job at face value, but under the covers its a different story.

You think this is good, you should see his latest creation on the Stockcar.

JL Audio components utilising waveguides, all from almost equal pathlengths, up in front of both driver and passenger. Including the 10" subs.

That's intense! I like how it's all functional and not just for show.
