Hi all,
Am fairly new to mobile electronics and am thinking of getting a carputer.

This would be used for CD/MP3/AVI/DVD etc playback, as well as plug-in GPS and WiFi.

I've just noticed this one on eGay. NEW Mini ITX Carputer Car Computer CarPC M12K 120G +RAM

I'm totally new to the concept of carputers and have been reading up a little recently as I want to upgrade my 6year old deck with something decent but inexpensive.

Is a budget of ~$1000 for a complete carputer (incl moniter, power suply, DVD-Rom unit etc etc) reasonable?

With the unit above, I'm asuming I'd need a power suply (or will this run on 12v?) a moniter (touchscreen mounted in dash)a dvd-rom for CD/DVD playback & installing apps, and a track ball, plus one of those roll-up keyboards thrown in the glove box.

Is there a recomended windows opperating system to run on these? Cost?

What audio program would you guys suggest for audio/MP3/DVD playback?
I'd like something similar to Wondoze Media Player where I can create/store playlists, and also something to give greater sound tuning/controll like a processor.

Will the sound quality be comparable, or better than a head deck in a similar price range?

Think thats it for the minute, although I'm sure I'll have more Q's as I do more research...

Thanks! :-)

Psu was included with the one u linked and is 12v. All you need is a touch screen and a usb dvd drive so u can just put the pc under a seat etc and hook the monitor and dvd drive up via long usb cords (hidden away ovcourse). Go on mp3car.com there is alot of info on there.

Creative X-Fi sound card is 7.1 and 108db SnR... more than Alpine, and you can notice it! =) I didn't want to go back, but had problems with heat issues running the old pc. Got a new Antec Trio 550w and works wickedly... but mine is a bit full on. (Core2/8800GT)
