Why do I get the feeling I'm helping to "kill the car audio industry" with the content in this thread?

After all, if people decide what their end goal is, and then work out what they need to achieve that goal, it doesn't leave any room for marketing to sway them to buy something that is not conducive to their design goal, now does it?

the biggest problem with an MTM (or D'Appolito Configuration, after its inventor), is the physical space needed to do it properly.

All D'Appolito's are MTM's. Not all MTM's are D'Appolito's though. An MTM not employing 3rd order crossovers is not technically a D'Appolito (there may be some other requirements too, I can't remember). Not that it matters that much. In the end I just call it an MTM because that way I never make the mistake of thinking the 2 are 1 and the same, plus MTM is THAT much easier to type.

You were seemingly on sabbatical from this forum when I wrote that post. Also you are included under "etc." :P

So lets go a little bit more into depth with Arrays seems it's a hot topic at the moment.
How can we practically implement arrays into a car, and how do they work around the environment?
Lets use br85's car as an example.
He is using an array of 3 midranges across the top of his dash, to steer the sound away from the side windows.
This array will create a narrower horizontal response.
Just yesterday I got this whole array working for the first time. Given that I've got the flu and my ears are a bit blocked I'll probably have to retune later, but I'm surprised at just how loud the whole thing can go without breaking up. I've got no midbass or subbass yet so it's just these little 2 inchers and the XT25s running.

The loading of the windscreen seems to pack some serious punch, I can feel the air pressure from snare drums on my face (to a point). At the moment I'm crossing the fullranges at 200hz/6db HP (and they're handling it surprisingly well) and 2.5khz/12db LP, and the XT25's at 5khz/12db HP, and there doesn't seem to be any "hole". My guess is that the windscreen/dash loading is adding about 10db of gain in that frequency range, but I'll have to take it to one of the shops or find someone with a RTA to REALLY see what's going on.

Stage width is definitely not as good as a kickpanel setup, but the overall clarity and solidarity of center image (considering that these drivers aren't PARTICULARLY "hi definition") is better than anything I've ever heard in a car before (except maybe BMWTurbo's but I doubt his can go as loud :P )
