How many individual LED's did you end up gluing to the edge of the perspex?

What is reflective paint? is that like line marking paint or something?
It is available from a normal paint supplier like burnings, solver etc? or?

XxX XxX, it was fine fitting the perspex, leds and 3mm mdf behind it because with my boot lid the centre slightly caves in and the perspex, led and mdf all together was only 10-11mm

Im glad to help cris, i was actually thinking of doing it in fibreglass too then thought maybe sheet metal but when i was looking around bunnings i saw the 3mm mdf and saw it flexed quite abit and soaking it was just a thought, i had no idea if it would work or not until i did a few test pieces

paulv, i used 144 leds, which was two led strips which have 72 leds on each,
reflective spray paint is just a clear paint that have reflective material in it and i bought it at bunnings, i was just going to use white paint which is pretty reflective just by itself but i saw the reflective paint and figured it would help bounce the light back threw the perspex

I tried this yesterday with moderate success. I didn't have time to soak it, so I tried with my little steamer but it wasn't powerful enough. I grabbed my heat gun and tried that and it seemed to help it hold the shape a bit but I couldn't get it to bend as far as I wanted. I haven't finished it but I am pretty happy with how it turned out considering it only took me 2 hours so far.

I may do another one and try wetting it down and use the heat gun and see if it bends more, i don't have a bath or anything big enough to soak it in. Will let you know how that goes.

Cheers
Chris

Hey mate where did you buy your vinyl from? Or what are the usual places that stock this and don't charge heaps for buying small amounts? And whats the rough price of it?
I love what you've done and Ive got a million ideas to build on from this. Top stuff!

EDIT: Also, would 6mm MDF be too thick?

By kerf you mean scoring it so it will bend? Im guessing. Probably that plus soaking? And Melbs suppliers sounds sweet. When you buy some for the doors I'll just add to the order :)

I did this the other day on a 2005 WRX STI.
I used 3mm ply and instead of soaking and bending (insufficient time) I made a two-piece panel instead, ie cutting the panel in half, then screwing down 2/3 towards the middle cut from top and bottom to force the bend.

Carpeted as one piece the result was spot on.
