Hey

Ive recently got my stereo installed and its running off the stock HU with a Peripheral LOC. I think the time has come to PIMP it up a little more :P

Im trying to choose between these two units. The Clarion I can get new from an Australia retailer for $1599 and the Alpine $2400.

What are the better points from each? The clarions RRP is $4299 so I take it is a high quality unit?

Your opinion is appreciated.

PS The rest of my system is as follows:

Alpahsonik PMA2150A
Dynaudio 240GT
Alphasonik PMA2150A
Boston Pro 10.5LF

As you have posted this in the SQ forums its probably safe to assume you want high sound quality.

From using both these source units, I would certainly go for the Alpine. That is based on purely the colorisation of the sound by the units themselves.

The 300E has been rplaced with the 310E recently, which has cured a number of the foibles of the 300E - namely the lack of secondary display when the face is closed. This means that $2,400 is a little exy for the 300E new (try closer to $2k) as Alpine have closed them out to dealers from what I understand to make way for the new one. The 310E is $2,999 RRP but you'll get a coupla hundred off this 'street price' for sure.

I just bought a IVA-D300e and I LOVE it... possibly the best Alpine screen I have used to date.

The Clarions are nice, but I find the Alpine a much smoother unit to navigate. Also, teh cosmetics of the Alpine suited my interior much better.

Best thing I can suggest, is go play with both units... and find which one you like better.

I did end up buying the clarion, although the alpine was my dream unit, I just personally couldnt justify the extra as im still on part time wages.

PS And I bought the Clarion at Autobarn at Capalaba (brisbane)

I'm sure youll be happy with it :)

If it were up to me personally id go the Clarion as well. I just generally prefer clarion source units to Alpine ones.

Hi..........
I got IVA-D900 and it's great with the remote and sub control on the unit, however it's such a pain when it come to repair or modification.............i.e no one wanna touch it but Alpine people.
