OK, a little help needed here please guys.

Ive got the Jaycar auto power window closer module fitted to a 91 Honda Prelude, the thing seems to be wired up fine.....just when i lock the doors each window only goes up 1/3-1/2 way, then stops. Ive tried adjusting the "trim" so it stays on longer, but around 1/2 way is the most i can get out of it.
What im thinking is the module is "sensing" the windows are closed and cutting off the power, probably because the car is fairly old and the windows to slow down a little when they get to the top half. Its interesting to note the p/s window closes a little more than the drivers, if i arm / disarm the alarm twice the windows go up fine (1/2 way on the first attempt, then the rest on the second attempt).

So, is there any way i can bypass the voltage / load sensor or add more time if its not what i think it is?

Heres the link to the module.

Any help or opinions will be appreciated, cheers.

snail had one of these modules, with aftermarket window winders.

it was useless, so he took it back, wires all hacked up and everything.

they gave him a refund still :P

the module senses the current, so, if the window is stiff (or a fast, high power aftermarket setup) then the current sense will kick in before the window is the whole way up, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Hmm, i thought it was something along those lines. So is there another brand that performs better, or do they all operate along the same lines?

he had another old one just lying around, but didn't know the pinouts, we figured it out, and that module worked perfectly...

not sure what brand it was though, sorry :(

it was from tonkins though, but was probably 5 years old...

If you get a Mongoose one they are sequential...so drivers first, then passengers and so on...helps to ease the load a bit especially on older cars

Thanks, i might look into the Mongoose one....although the module i have now does it the same (driver first, then passenger). I was mainly wondering if there was a way around the current / voltage sensing part...apparently not, so i might just keep it in stock (bought from Electus) and when a customer requires one with a newer car i'll have one here.

Bit old, but might be useful.

I have one of these in my rex, and it works fine.

I had a 2-door version in my old Excel(94 - manual windows) with an aftermakret(read; eGay) power window kit.

It did the same thing. Now, whilst I never got off my arse and tried this, I thought about using the outputs to trigger a relay.

The window kit was fused @ 30A, whereas the Winder kit @, from memory, 15A.

I did check the timing on the winder kit, and if they don't sense the 'stop' current(higher draw) they remain 'closed' for 30 seconds.

The only thing I was worried about, was by applying power to the window motor for a full 30 seconds, it may burn out.

That said, in my rex, it has an issue with the front passenger window, and applies power for the full 'wait period' and I ahven't noticed any ill-effects in 12 months. That is an OEM system though.

Bit tired and fed up with cars tonight, so if anything doesn't sound right, or doesn't make sense, please forgive me. Hope that gives some help...

Alex

Not sure where you picked up the wires, but im sure in the honda prelude your talking about you will have to run the wires from the lift module direct to the motor in each door. Not at the switch like you can do on other cars. To top it off they are a bitch to run cable througgh the door gromets

old thread i know, but i though id post here rather than starting up a new thread.

my GF just got a new alfa, and id like to fit auto-up windows. i remembered jaycar had a mod for it, went in and they dont stock it anymore, turns out they got alot of returns, and one guy burnt out the wiring in his car [tried to get them to pay for the damage].so they suggested building my own kit [relays, timer, and a sensor. cant be too hard eh?]... im ok with electronics but i cant find any info or circuit drawings. so ditch that idea, because a search of this forum it seems i can buy them elsewhere anyway.

whats a good, prooven kit?

any recommendations?
