Slowly upgrading my system over time with better and better gear, also slowly forced me to completely dump anything other than the outright bought CD's.

as a result i've not downloaded a MP3 in at least 4-5 years, in fact i don't even own a IPOD,
(I have temporarily borrowed one to use in the work ute with the busted CD mech for the time being though, using lossless formats of course that i ripped myself!!)

in short, not it isn't a waste of money or time, getting nicer equiptment,
if anything it might make you appreciate what is actually being recorded, and you
might feel compelled in the future to spend a few bucks making the upgrade to the real deal,
not the downloaded freebie. Supporting the people that make this hobby practical.

After all, what good is a stereo if there is no music?
