Heya,

I recently acquired some USD waveguides. However, because of my kicpanels, I cannot get the waveguides all the way to the side of the car, as the compression driver hits the kickpanel.

My question is, can i flip the waveguides 180° so that the compression driver is facing the centre of the car, instead of the outside.
This would mean that the waveguide itself will curve opposite to before (see crude pic below).
I am confused to whether this will effect dispersion. Logic tells me it will, but I am not sure.

And yes, I said it was crude :)

Thanks for any help, IF I can do this, I would then be able to move the waveguides over to the sude of the car, gaianing around 4" each side.

The only excuse for passive crossovers is their low cost. Their behavior changes with the signal level dependent dynamics of the drivers. They block the power amplifier from taking maximum control over the voice coil motion. They are a waste of time, if accuracy of reproduction is the goal.

Sadly no, as the way they disperse you would end up with no centre image with your planned idea.

What car are you using them in? The USD's should fit most cars.

Believe me, I would have loved to have been able to do this also. Sadly no, it cannot be done.

lol, thanks for the confirmation. Logic told me no, but my heart wanted a yes.

Its in an HQ Teg, they do fit, but because of my kickpanels, I can only get them around 3-4" from the side. Not a huge deal, just wanted to know before I made all the brackets up.

The centre image may be off, but wouldn't it make a WIDE soundstage? :)

I would be pulling the kicks out and modding them to mount the HLCD's properly, they will be worth the effort :)

Shizzle, as long as the outer edge of the mouth is a few inch's past your ear it is ok. Go to www.imagedynamics.com forum and watch the video's they have on mounting horns. They mention that they dont have to be right to the edge of the car.

Ant- the USD's are slightly different in design to the ID horns. They used a different throat design, so they are more sensitive to being mounted correctly.

hmmm, modifying the kicks IS an option, but not one I would like to do now. I have spent too much effort getting them in and working well. Modifying them would mean cutting out around 3L from the enclosure, and then having to re-fibreglass etc etc.

@blanketman - its the actual back of the horn, there the motor mounts that is hitting my kickpanel. The motor is flipped atm, but due to my kicks protruding around 100mm+ from the sidewall, it limits how close the horn can go against the side.

I think I will mount the horns as best i can and then take it from there.

I do appreciate the advice, and understand I am compromising, but sometimes practicality takes over.

Thanks once again.

problem with that is that the vents are only around 200mmx100mm, so do not cover the whole area of the throat.

I did think about this, but I do not want to hack the dash, and surely if you are not having the entire throat firing through the dash, you would compromise the sound?

By wave guides, do you mean horns or the actual ribbed wave guides they put on mids in line arrays?
