Hey just wondering wether anyone has a decent sq test track, or even the name of a cd????

For a single track, my all-time favourite recorded track is Dire Straits - Private Investigations (from"The Best of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler".)

I like to use tracks to test various components in the system as well as some of those mentioned above.

Subbass - I'm sure you have plenty.
Midbass - La Ballade Du Georges - Chillout Sessions 10. Awesome track, has the best recorded Cello I have ever listened to and will really test midbass speakers for neutrality and depth otherwise it won't sound like a Cello. If your mids are crossed high it can drag your stage back to your subs too.
Tweeters - Christina Aguilera - Stripped Most of the tracks on this album are top heavy, so it can sound spitty and harsh, or sound great through speakers that resolve this information well.

As a personal choice I use an array of tracks from well recorded jazz artist, can you say Diana Krall, Fourplay, George Benson, Al Jerreau, Peter White, Norman Brown, Ronny Jordan, Chuck Loeb & Gotta Yashiki. I know you can...

However, for the masses, I suggest IASCA 2005 CD:

Track 1: Don Dorsey "Ascent"- will show if a system is capable of the full range of frequencies.

Track 2: Good to check out your left and right verification. Do listen to the entire track.

Track 3: Good to check out phase verification as well as mid and high frequencies. SQ Tip: keep changing the phase while listening to the track until the voices appear as natuaral as possible. Also adjust polarity on your speakers to get the best focus you possibly can.

Track 5: John Williams Star Wars "Throne Room & Title Ending"- Around 29-30 seconds into the track there should be a french horn at the back of the stage on the right hand side, these should echo around and bounce off the edges of the soundstage, at more or less the same time there are some high frequencies played from the xylephone, they should be clean, crisp and above all overpower any of the other instruments.

Track 6: John Williams Superman "The Planet Krypton"- Excellent for setting up subdoofers. Around 1.09 seconds into the track , there are a 8/9 very low notes all sustained for around 2 seconds. The notes should descend in order, the 4th note is the 18hz note. SQ Tip- when set up correctly: the music should be felt as well as heard, you'll feel a small vibration thru the car and the subwoofer may appear to flutter. All of this should be achieved without the subwoofwoofer losing control of the notes and producing one long continuous note. In other words the notes must stop and start not run into each other. Towards the end of the track there is a crescendo from the from the tympani drums, the strings and the organ, these should increase in volume but not get so loud as to overpower the subwoofer as the subwoofer is the dominant speaker.

Track 7: Jaque Loussier "Gavotte in d minor"- good for setting up midbass and midrange. SQ Tip: around 40 seconds the double bass plays a sustained low frequency note which should last for a while, if it doesn't TUNE SOME MORE...

Track 9: Henry Manchini "Theme of the Pink Panther"- Excellent for checking soundstage. At the beginning of the track the piano at the far left is an excellent referance in regards to the stage width on the left hand side of the car. The triangle on the right should be be slightly away from the stage width on that side of the car. The saxaphone is deeper into the stage and positioned around left of centre. The brass and drums should be in even deeper into the stage. Around 42 seconds into the track the orcestra gets going and you should feel like you in a huge room with the music bouncing off the walls. A rather large and lush sound I'de say.

Anyway I could go to town with this CD, but i think it's pretty good for setting up. Just my 2 bobs worth...

I saw an IASCA 2005 CD in Adhiko Rusley's car while auditioning his 2009 set up. As for hitting me up for an audition, I believe you the official judge for Intermediate Class VIC, so an audition someday is inevitable.

Il Divo's songs have a nice range, try finding the one they sang with Celine Dion, I Believe In You I think is the title of the song, I listened to it on a well setup home audio system, chills!

Me too!.. also include Michael Buble and the EMMA 2006 to 2009 judging discs.
