My car (a Volvo 245) has two din positions and neither of them are suitable for a normal fold out display.

The one down the bottom (where my current headunit lives) is almost sitting on the transmission tunnel so a normal screen would hit the gearstick when it slides out, and the one up the top has plenty of clearance for sliding out, but there is a 10cm deep hood that covers the instrument cluster and that part of the dash, so there is no way a normal screen could flip up.

Has anyone seen a screen that does the opposite of what most single din 7" screens do?

Instead of sliding out and folding upwards to show the screen, one that slides out and folds downwards to show the screen. This would work in my upper DIN mount perfectly.

I've attached a picture of the dash (not my car though) to show what I mean about the DIN locations.

i kno that kenwood do a single din fold out screen that once it folds out, pivots from the front/bottom, and you can adjust not only the angle of the screen, but how far it sticks out from the source unit... i used one in a mates gemini with a similar issue of a regular screen fouling the upper edge of the dash... worked a treat!

I would put in the extra effort and fit a decent double din where your current A/C fan controls are. Much better to use and operate, single din screens just hack it with me.
Relocating that A/C stuff should be doable. It would look better too, with a nice neat custom piece.

or how about just relocating the switches to the lower din area and mounting the unit above the heater controls. switches will be easier than heater controls/vents to move. i think it could actually look rather good if done right...

Some screens have the ability to change the screen orientation using the menus.

Couldn't you install the whole DIN mount upside down so it flips out downwards? Then change the setting to flip the displayed image.

Of course any text on the front bezel would be upside down too.
