Still, it's got some other pretty good features...

There are differences between states and as far as I know they are only actually not allowed at all in Western Australia.

Sorry Marc, I was relying on my time as an alarm fitter when the company I worked for would not fit alarms capable of remote start on the grounds that it was illegal and compromised the security of the car (most of them involve bypassing the factory transponder immobiliser.)
Legalities aside, I am still not sure why you'd want to start your car without actually being in it.
I give it full merit as a gadget - a showoff feature - but it's usefulness beyond that???

Even if it could have been installed with my VE, I wouldn't want it because it does have to bypass the factory immobiliser....

This is only what I have heard and is by no means 100% accurate. I will however try and get a more official stance on it for you guys.

To try to clarify everyones questions here.
Remote start cant be done on a VE due to the fact the car runs a form of CAN Bus.
Pulsar and Tegboy will be able to use remote start in conjunction with factory imobiliser bypass. These bypass units do not compromise your factory security as they only disengage the immobiliser whilst remote start is being used otherwise they continue to protect the car.
Having remote start fitted to your car is not illegal, it is however illegal to have your car running un attended in a public area. This would make Turbo Timers illegal if that were the case.
Viper remote start alarms have features to guard against the vehicle starting whilst in gear. Installed by an Authorised Dealer you will have no concerns.
Viper Smart Start is coming late March early April so stay tuned.

Mehh....I'm happy with mine and it works great. I also got the GPS module as well...so I can track my car if it gets stolen...hopefully it never gets to that stage tho!
