Has anybody ever used this brand before? Heard it? I've heard their subs in the past paired off with Dynaudio System 360s (with another 8" driver added, making a 4 way front stage) and I thought they sound brilliant. I'm just curious to know if anyone has used their amps and component speaker sets.

If anyone in Melbourne has AVI, I'd love to hear their setup Posted Image

I know Metrosound in NSW dsitributes them.. but that is all. No one stocks them in Vic unfortunately

Here's the home page

And below is their sub... one of them anyway.

Yeah i posted the very same topic when i visited Metrosound around a year ago.......

I'll steal something from a member who had described that they "kick like a pissed off donkey" so yes they have alot of midbass. On the boards they sounded alright but products that were there to compare them with was extremely limited. They had the older versions of the Focal Utopia and even older versions of the Alpine splits. Also, when i enquired, the prices did not include crossovers and from memory they had easily exceeded $1k for the entry level drivers.

For that money, i would probably still look at all the other options you have (i doubt you need us to elaborate on what brands are available).

Hopefully someone will be able to help you out with a Demo but unfortunately, as mentioned above, i had only heard them on the boards and not in a car.

Good luck.

So they do sound good on the boards, hey? I'm assuming they would.. as AVI are also meant to be top notch in Home Audio gear too. I emailed Hutch, but he never got back to me with some prices... Ah well.... I may have to do a stop-by when I'm in Sydney next

Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

Theres a story behind what you said :)

Rob buy a ticket to Syd and have a listen for yourself. Hutch is a friend and a nice guy. AVI are nice for those who like their sound. Go listen for yourself and make up your own mind about the demo board. FTR, the story is true, many a retailer does it :)

I have AVI Direct LX component sets (midbass LXD160, tweeter HF30B) and it is a very nice sounding speaker, although speaker placement is less forgiving than my old Rodek RS160. I don't have much experiences with many different 2-way speakers, but I can compared this speaker to my friend's 2-way system. One use Boston Pro and the other uses Morel Elate 6.

Both the Boston Pro and Morel Elate 6 owners use Boston GT28 amplifier and Pioneer head unit (old series 9 and P80RS respectively). I use Nakamichi CD700 and DLS Ultimate A5. In summary, the Boston Pro is very loud and ear piercing sharp, the Morel Elate 6 is rich and warm. The AVI Direct LX sits right in the middle according to my ears. Never too sharp and never too rich.

I am sure there are other factors which leads to the end result of the sound but I hope it gives some indication what kind of sound the AVI produce as speaker's brand always have its own character.

Thanks heaps for your input on these drivers. And welcome to the forums too :)
Going off your components, you got the higher end tweeter to add to your mids. As the HF25T went back with those mids to compose the Direct LX set originially. Would I be right?
