So, currently putting bits and pieces I have had sitting in cupboards for longer then I care to admit into the better half's car (I stick to two wheels these days, not so stereo friendly...).

Currently the front stage is a set of Peerless HDS 6.5" mids I picked up and some Oz Audio tweets I had sitting around.  The Peerless speakers, while sounding amazing for the price point, aren't quite going to cut it for round two, which involves USD HLCD's.  Also in my box of tricks (thank you fuddles) is two 10" USD mids.

The gear is going in a 00 camry, not the most audio friendly car, but we work with what we have.  My question at this point, to anyone who has used large drivers, any suggestions on where to mount them?  My thoughts so far are either doors or floor pods, with possibly a 3/4" driver in the kicks if needed?

Any useful hints or experiences greatly appreciated :)

I put my 8" midbass's in the kickpanels in my own car. Hard work and many hours later they are well worth the trouble. The pods will hold a small (like a shallow) 10" if need be at a squeeze.

Other option is floorpods.

Personally I prefer the kickpanels, but also admit that its very hard work. Specially with 10"s being that much bigger and harder. In the kicks the can be held so much better and on a every-day-use basis, kicks also work much better.

Also; modern slim 10's are pretty good, but also 8" & 9" drivers work well as midbass's too, making them an easier install.

What car is that in? Looking at the kick area for this car there would be relocating of a fair bit of wiring, and more than likely metal cutting to get the driver sitting deep enough back and still have an enclosure behind. Might pull a few more things out and measure up though.

Start pulling the kick panels apart to have a look see... if you can get the 10s in there they will sound great!

Doors with some pods would be the seccond option. ;)

here's a link to my build. Its a 98 Accord. Please note the kick panels are configured more or less IB, Vas is x3 min, for the original driver I planned for. However, its easy to seal them back up again if need be. I had to move both masses of wiring, cut paneling and relocate several items. All mods are reversible (engineering/welding etc not an issue). Like i said above, not easy, but results are WELL worth it.
Also there's been several changes, revesions, re-dos since this.

But the basic 4way, all active, all I.B. configuration stands as planned.

2000 Camrys are far from pleasant with bigger speakers up front. Forget kicks! I'll tell you that much. They aren't deep at all.

Either doors with a FG build out... or floor pan enclosures.

2000 camry will have a dual wall build in the kick panel area (like 90%) of cars. There is several inches to be had IF your willing to cut metal.

Oh, i went searching and found this thread. Its from the HAT forum, but this is guy has built a few comp level Camry's and this one has photos of the cavity i mention.

Well.. that's the other factor.. IF metal cutting was gonna happen.

Having said that, I just saw how you put yours in the far corner of the foot well and into the kicks. Crazy setup there, Syd!!! Very impressive

All legal, my friend :) Old school has always been my fave school (hence the Alpine V12 fetish of mine :P)

Kid.. go floors firing up at the windscreen. ;) I've heard them personally and this was with a pair of 8s...(Cyber's old rolla with the Dyn 8" drivers). Excellent midbass in the car!

Hmm, looking at the kick area I think tens would simply be too much of a squeeze. These aren't exactly shallow either haha. Floor pods might be worth a go, it's the easiest to match up with a mid, or undo if it doesn't work out.

Syd-monster that build is amazing, I'm still reading it! Kicks would be great, but I think he horns alone will take a lot of time and work in those corners without fitting something else in. Maybe I need to start saving for a LHD automatic porche 928...

10" in the kicks, horn through the demister vents, with the body and motor through the firewall.

Easy

And subwoofer mounted under the dash, yes? No point doing things half way!
