I currently have Two Image dynamics IDQ 12" V3 D4 in a sealed box about 70 L in the back of my falcon. Both woofers are running of an Audio system F2-500. The box was facing the back of the car but when i was playing some louder songs the boot lid was slapping up and down on the back window. so i changed the box around and fired into the back seats, this stopped the vibrations.

In changing the box around i have lost a fair bit of output (loading off boot??) and i would like to try a ported box. What is a good size box for the IDQ woofers and what is the best way of running them. I mostly like listening to rock but i listen to most types of music depending on mood and the traffic. I also want to have a go at some sound offs but really dont want to comprimise much on sound quality.

I have tried designing boxes with basebox pro but there is too much going on there for me. cant work out much at all. All i really need is a optimum volume, port size and length and any tips on how and where to face woofers/ports.

OK, considering you have 2 x drivers, the recommended size for a sealed enclosure was originally a cubic foot per sub. (28.31L). If youi want to go ported, then per sub, you could make up 1.9 cubic feet with a port diameter of 4" and 13.80" long (tuned at 28Hz). That's an audiophile-spec box.

If the woofers are forward firing, try seal the rest of the boot from the frontal area of the woofers - with something like an MDF trim panel. This will minimise cancellation & loss.
I'd be trying that before I built another box!

The box i currently have was built with a flat face and sits at an angle to the back seats, if i built the said ported box at 1.9 cubic feet (per driver ?) would i see any gains from sealing the box to the parcel shelf, floor and strut towers in behind the seats ?

Would something like 12mm MDF do for the trim panel behind the seats or should i use 18mm mdf like the box ?

Where would be the best place to aim the ports into the cab alongside the drivers or into the sealed off section of the boot. Would 4" down water pipe do for the port or is there a better material i should use ?? and would flaring make much of a difference.

How thick can i buy perspex, would it be possible to put a perspex window in the back of the box so you can see the rear of the drivers and with such a large box what sort of bracing would be required.
