This speaker set has been released for quite some time now but there's not much talk about it here. Why? Didn't it perform as expected?

Some other questions in mind:

a) Can you use this speaker on a fairly loud systems paired with a JL 12W7? (SQL)

b) Would you use the passive crossovers or would you run this active? (Bi-amp) Given that the amp is an audison vrx4300 (175w x 4)

I had considered the SEAS gear...but a little bit pricey and no real reviews or info from anyone actually using them.

Perhaps contact the Australian supplier...they might be able to answer your questions

I'd rather hear from end users. By the way, what's the favorite 2way component speakers for around US$800-1000 ?

that's kinda like asking "what's your favourite colour?"

go and listen to some speakers in your budget and let YOUR ears decide which ones you like best

Marty's installed a few sets in Sydney but I have no idea if any of the people who purchased Seas setups frequent this place. I rate them very highly, similar in sound to the Polk SR speakers but just that little bit more controlled IMO. The subs are an excellent choice for SQ but don't bother trying to go loud with them.

Bro, do you mean dont try going loud with the seas subs? or with the seas reference component speakers (RS165/1) ?

ok thanks. any of you guys know if the RS165/1 can take a pounding? Will it break down if I increase the volume of my radio to 90% for like an hour? (without clipping and system will be level matched).

depends.

What sort of amp power would you be feeding them? If you were running, say 100wrms without clipping or distortion, using the passive crossover, one would expect them to have no trouble handling this for a long period. Change that to 1000wrms and its a different story.

Perhaps send Marty at FHRX an email, or go and see him in store, and have a chat. I believe they've been selling the Seas Lotus gear for a while.

The only excuse for passive crossovers is their low cost. Their behavior changes with the signal level dependent dynamics of the drivers. They block the power amplifier from taking maximum control over the voice coil motion. They are a waste of time, if accuracy of reproduction is the goal.

joms, include your location in your profile to avoid this problem in the future?

sorry about my location. I'm currently clicking buttons to see how to add my location in my profile. By the way, I live in the Philippines.

@Matt - I'll be powering them with an Audison VRX4300 (2x175w to the tweeters and 2x175w rms to the midbass). They will be run active with an Alpine W502 / H701 proc. My sub is a JL12w7 (driven by a JL HD750/1 750watts) which I might put in a ported box as I'm thinking of going SQL for now. (I've been an SQ guy for quite some time now so I'd like to taste or experience the SQL life. Or maybe, i just need a change for awhile LOL).

In this regard, do you think the seas can play loud? I know the JL12w7 won't have a problem....

No, it cant, and you'll have problems trying to get it there.

Its a 6.5", so it suffers the same problems as all 6.5" midbasses when you try and crank them up. Plus, its a Seas, so whilst it plays very well within a certain operating range, its breakup is hideous. At higher volumes, they are actually quite uncomfortable to listen to.

If you use an 8", 4" and tweeter all made by SEAS, thats a different story.

Their tweeters are exceptionally good too.
