OK, so a little more progress, and a little more background info, so that youse can help me decide where to go from here...

The exhaust isnt that bad on the car. It is 3" turbo back, but has additional resonators/mufflers to quieten it down. Not your typical WRX 3" exhaust with large cannon tip - put it that way.

Its actually an APS exhaust, and to quote their website info about it:

http://www.airpowers.../fastfours.html

Other developments included an exhaust system that wouldn't foul the underbody, was neat, would meet EPA noise limitations and yet provide excellent performance. A number of pipe configurations and sizes were tried along with various catalytic converters and something like 10 different mufflers. The '"inner" punches out a quiet and legal spot-on 90dB and consists of 3" mandrel bent aluminised steel pipe, a high flow catalytic converter, resonator and stainless steel muffler with an off-set, perforated tube design. And for those who don't know, 90dB is the maximum legal noise permitted by the EPA and, if ever pulled over by the police, APS can supply the appropriate ADR37 emission and noise test report documentation supporting its legality.

Anyways... With that said, i still love the Subaru burble and dont want to eliminate it completely, just quieten it down somewhat. Im sure once i have the rear seat in and Dynapad over the diff hump/under the rear seat, i'll be more than happy with the results, and may give Dynapadding the boot floor a miss. That, and im running out of Dynapad! haha... But we shall see how it sounds once im done with what i have left. Ive come this far, im not going to half arse it if im not happy with it. If i need more Dynapad, then so be it!

So i was thinking, ill Dynapad under the rear seat bottom? Or just not bother since the 5" thick foam will absorb some of the sound? What do you think?

And the rear diff hump there where the boot meets the back seat? There seems to be a fair bit of noise coming from this area from what i can tell.

Then save some of the Dynapad for inside the boot and mainly on the rear wheel arches to kill off any of the other noise.

Hopefully deadening the parcel shelf, boot lid, rear quarter panels, rear wheel arches and a few other areas inside the boot will also help kill off a little bit more noise.

Good plan? Or nah? Suggestions are most certainly welcome. I have heaps of Dynamat left, but only one sheet of Dynapad (though ill get another one if i must lol)...

Awesome thread Rick - yours are always interesting. How many packs/sheets of dynapad have you or will you use?
I noticed Marty has it on special for $159 and my car sure could use it, its basically a Toyota equivalent of a WRX. Its a Jap import Toyota Caldina and a wagon to make noise matters worse.

Sorry dude, totally missed your reply. Thanks man, im trying to get this right the first time in this car, i certainly dont want to be doing it again!

So far ive used 2 on the floor, 1 under the back seat/diff hump/boot, and ill be using 1 more on the boot floor. More than i ever dreamed of, but after seeing/hearing the effect it had on the front floor alone when i put the front half of the interior back in (and had the rear half still bare), basically i could hear ALL the road noise/exhaust note/vibrations coming from the rear of the car, and hardly any from the front half. Honestly, you could clearly hear and tell that the noise was coming from behind you only, as opposed to coming from all around you, as i had experienced the week before, when i was driving with the drivers seat only! lol... (That was fun also, just quietly ;) Track spec WRX anyone? :D haha)

Anyways, after hearing its effects, i said stuff it and ordered another 2 Dynapads. My brain says "Do it once, do it right". My wallet says "You're an idiot". LOL

Annnnnnnnnnyways, on with the show.

Ive Dynapadded under the back seat and the diff hump and will be continuing with another piece in the boot. Also deadened the rear shelf, removed the rear speakers, deadened the bottom of the wooden shelf/trim and added some Dynaliner in between the two, so it hopefully doesnt rattle/vibrate, and added 3x 5/16" bolts to the 3 child seat restraints, in order to bolt it all together solid. Pics of all that to come soon.

Im yet to put the back seat back in, but i have a question first...

In the top pic, you can see the factory MLV on the front of the rear wheel arches. In the bottom pic you can see ive deadened it and will probably replace the factory MLV too. Im going to run out of Dynapad to use on the rear wheel arches in the boot side, as i only have 1 sheet left and the majority of that will be used on the boot floor itself.

I need to start prioritising where my offcuts of Dynapad go. I have 2 largish triangles that would pretty much fit perfectly in the locations there on the front side of the rear wheel arches. My question is, should i use it there? Or just keep the factory MLV there and refit the back seat, using these large triangles, for covering up the wheel arches on the boot side?

Does any of this make ANY sense? LOL...

If it were me, I would put the best material on the cabin side. Not sure if the dynapad is better than the factory MLV, but whatever you deem the best material I would do that.

the reasoning behind this is you want to keep the noise out the cabin. Keeping it out the boot won't hurt in the long run, but the back seat and other things will help prevent some of the noise coming in.
Use the offcuts on the boot side, to help reduce noise there.

Also, if you just want a bit f MLV, look at Jaycar. Around $10/square, and 2 would do both wheel arches. Pretty nice stuff too, just a bit of closed cell foam on the back of the MLV, and you will be set.

Hope that helps.

Search StP.. Check out BTP Gold. It comes in 5 & 10mm thicknesses. It's made exactly for that purpose.

Hey guys.

Im a little confused with Dynapad vs Dynaliner.
Dyna website seems to list them as beign different in construction yet both having a similar use.

From what I can gather:
Dynamat + Dynaliner (1/8" typically) for doors
Dynamat + Dynapad for floors? (Or Dynamat + Dynaliner (1/4") instead?
Dynamat + Dynaliner (1/4") for roof/trunk?

I guess I just need some help understanding when to go Dynapad vs Dynaliner - and their differences?

Or, should they be used together?

Thanks in advance, sorry for th n00b questions - Ive seen dynamat up close, not dynaliner or dynapad.

Any Updates on this? Keen to see some results.

As an example, this is my roof I did a few weeks ago. I know you have a sunroof, but this my dynamated roof.

I did actually Dynamat the undertray of my sunroof and noticed a little difference. I'll post some pics up of that soon.

Updates? Sure, the rest of my build thread is located here: http://www.mobileele...9s-project-wrx/
