What amp do u have?
Head unit?
Additional processor?
Open to option of second hand gear?
Just need a bit more info...
I'd also suggest not worrying about your rear speakers - these are only semi-important if u have ppl that sit in the back seat A LOT and you actually care what THEY hear from YOUR stereo that u paid money for...or if u sit in the back seat and drive your car from there... Spend the money on the front speakers that u save by not buying rear speakers...

Some would argue that because they are going to be faded away any how that it would not matter. But thats just me.
If your willing to sacrifice the rears, you can spend the extra money on the front speakers which would yield better results.

Assuming the amp is a separate budget then?

So the $500-700 is just for the front speakers?

Please don't....it is a serious waste of money.
In pretty much 90% of cars that compete in Sound Quality competitions, they don't have rear speakers. Rear speakers add nothing to the sound.
Think about it...when u r at a concert (live or recorded music)....where is the music coming from? Yes, that's right....right in front of u.
In my car I run a 3way front setup (mid bass, mid range and tweeter) and 2 subs in the boot....no rear speakers at all....and for a daily driven SQ car...it will rip your head off...
You would b much better off spending that additional money on your front speakers...rather than have a $500 set of front splits, u could have a $1000+ set that will b magnificent...

As nidekcus said, you really don't need to worry about rears.
For $500-$700, there are so, so many speakers I would buy before alpine or kicker. Take a look at brands like:
- Focal
- Boston
- Hertz
- JL Audio
- Morel
- Rainbow
- Dynaudio (2nd hand)
- Diamond Audio
- Crescendo
- CDT
- Oz Audio (if you can find them 2nd hand)

Yep. You should take that $500-$700 for the rears and make $1000-$1400 for the fronts, and get the Focal 165KRX3.

Marty, the owner, generally does discounts for MEA forum members and also will ship interstate.
In addition to that, check out www.hybridaudio.com.au - The L6 midbass with L1 Pro tweeter and passive crossover (unless u want to run active from whatever 4ch amp u get) would also be a great deal - and for less than $1000. I have a set of the L1 Pro for sale in the For Sale section...so I'm a little bit biased to how good they sound...
But some very solid recommendations from Chaos there

Good. Best decision you'll ever make. You could keep the current rears if you really wanted, but there is just no sense in buying more... especially for $700!
And I forgot HAT on that list... oh well. HAT is good too. Nidekcus is keen to see a new home for those tweets, definitely a very nice option.

and what else do they have to offer around the $500 $1000 range that would be worth a look?

Also consider the extra cost of installation of 3 way component sets over 2 way.
