I think the best "SQ Car" would be a Porsche 928 LHD with a rear engine conversion so that you could put woofers and other equipment "up front"
A more realistic option would be something like a Ford Mondeo hatch.

can mount sub in the front (rear engine)
although unsure how to get bass into the cabin effectively as i'm sure the RTA will say the firewall is off-limits for cut-through
weight in the front might stablise the handling a little, as i hear they're pretty nasty once the back end steps out.
A 928 auto left hand drive has possibly the most audio friendly interior I have ever seen. Plus a 4lt V8 in the front. Kicks are massive, the bottom of the dash is roomy and level, perfect for horns or allowing line of sight to kick mounted drivers. Plus the 'boot' is right behind, SPL would not be a problem. With the age you would probably have to look at replacing rubbers all round and sorting out a few squeaks here and there, but last time I looked 15g got VGC examples.
For something driven more often, the e36 m3 seems to be a popular choice for several nice installs.

Gen 5/6 Golf has got to be one of the worst...factory driver arrangemet has to be the most completely random arrangement i've ever seen. Midbass, midrange and tweeter all have about 3/4 of a metre seperating them and are just generally all over the shop.
I'd have to agree with TheMatt though - I was in my friends' parents' Oddysey (previous Gen) about a year ago, and I was looking athe car just IMAGINING all the things I could do with that interior...talk about staging, the dashboards is almost big enough to BE a stage!

CLK55 AMG would be lovely
Or even a CLK430 - they are getting quite a bit more affordable now, and were (imo) one of the last 'real' Mercs. The current generation models just don't seem to have quite the same class and quaity imo.

Toyota Celsior's (Lexus LS400-LS430 etc.) have a lot of sound deadening and have a V8, but I'm not sure about the kick panels or the boot as the fuel tank is in there.
I honestly think it's going to be nearly impossible to find a performance car with a good standard sound stage. But there is always the option of making custom enclosures.
If I didn't like driving so much, I would buy an Odyssey.

I love the "Factory" locations for horns in the 928, the LHD Auto has MASSIVE kick panels and you could probably fit 10s in there
If you did a rear engine conversion in one and put a sub up front it would be about as good as you could get.
I guess if you were going to that sort of trouble you could considder a line array.
