Hi Guys,

When I have my head unit at around 17 mark out of 40 being max my tweeters distort on high freq on two songs that i can tell.. Songs such as Celine Dion and Diving Faces (trance)...

Im not sure if this is due to the head unit pre-outs clipping (Pioneer AVH-P7850DVD) or the amp
(Zapco Ref 350.2) powering components (RE Audio XXX 6.5). I will try to find this out on the weekend when I set re-set the gain's however I have noticed with this particular headunit I cannot adjust the filter or cut of freq for how high the tweeters play...

If anyone with an Pioneer AVH-P7850DVD can maybe let me know how high they can turn the headunit up before getting a clipped signal let me know.. I usually set the headunit at 3/4 of its max volume (MAX = 40) and then set the amp gains from that point..

Cheers,
MB

Do you know anyone with a CRO? That'd be the most accurate way to tell...

My max volume was 25 with my AVH-P7850 with no distortion.

As above, Get your hands on a oscilloscope to check the signal.

Are you running Passive? If so why would you need a filter for your tweeters?

I've noticed I only get tweeter distortion with the Auto EQ feature on. Im running passive but thought a x-over filter will still be got to cut off how high the tweeters play?

Without the Auto EQ the system can play at 25+ without distortion however the SQ in terms of stage height and clarity isnt as good, hence why I have the Auto EQ set to ON..

I might take the car the Alberts to be RTA'd see if they can get it sounding any better..

No all you need is a High Pass to prevent your Mids from playing too low and over exeritn them, you don't have to worry about the tweeter that will be looked after by the passive.

I suspect your problem is the Auto EQ, I suspect it is adding a lot of boost around certain freq's causing the output from the HU or possibly the amp to clip in that freq's range since it is considerably higher then everwhere else.

There is no reason why you can't acheive the same results or better tunign the system manually as what the Auto EQ tune does.

Yeah i've been told to scrap the Auto EQ and have it tuned propely with RTA and a good set of ears.. I think i gotta get it booked into Alberts or West Side Cannington...

I've played around with it myself but still cant get it sounding as good as using the Auto EQ feature..

i have no stress with mine. i run at about vol 18 for testing 25 for normal and can push up to about 31 or 32 if i reaally wanna deafen myself and is still sounding fine and detailed. mind you there is 600rms+ for the fronts.

i would say run the fronts active. the deck is fairly capable, just takes a while to get used to the tuning side.

Are you using the Auto EQ on your 7850?

Running active is no longer an option, I did this in my previous car but have sold the Zapco 4 Channel and i'm only using a 2 Channel and Mono block with the factory rears off the deck with my current setup...

na.

when you run it active you cant use auto eq or ta. all manual.
dont forget the deck does have a tweeter output (its only 22rms from memory) but still i ran my tweeters off that for a while and it was ok. just a prick to wire because it comes from the external box. otherwise i would say even get a little 2 channel just for the tweeters.

22rms prob not enough power to run the RE Audio tweeters which are in the kick panels and I believe they are 3 ohm.. Def dont want to spend money on a another amp

mr_jay_318i is your normal lisiting volume 18 or 25 on your deck? Just curious as mines around 14-15 which is reasonable loud

yeah just depends. for testing about 12. normal listening 18-26 and can push up to about 31 for real loud. i do have my gains down and am about to turn em down a bit more to get rid of a tiny hiss i get on a 0 bit track. they are 5v pre outs, try turnin the gain right down.

yeah i think its time i checked my gains or got it RTA'd im running Symbilink rather then RCA's which have a preout booster so its converts it to 12 Volt preouts so i should prob drop the gains on the amps..

At 13 is my normal listening volume which is quite loud.
