Crescendo midrange (MB-3) is 3.6" :P

Clint mine is 3", in mounting depth; but there are those that don't mind it that thick, I mean deep.
It seems to me that you have your heart set on the CDM88's, however in saying that I must admit that the Crescendo 4"Adhiko proposed is a pretty good option too. Either will do and I doubt you'll be dissapointed whichever way you choose... Personally, I feel that the crescendo has that little bit of an edge over the morels in terms of midrange quality. :shiny:

the cdm-88 only looks usable from about 600Hz-5kHz

the dyn mid is only good down to 700 or 800 Hz, the morel a bit lower (as described previously)

problem I have also. might end up with some dyn mw150's in the kicks yet :)

or maybe just do away with mids and use better tweeters.

So far we have a 2 strong contenders, the Morel and the DLS, both look to suit my needs. I still love the Dyn's but the 8ohm is a worry, I only have 80rms x2 @4ohm for the mids.

Nominal speaker impedence should be the least of your worries, Teg. The one that fits, works best, lowest distortion in its passband, sounds good depending on your install (ie on/off axis, enclosure size etc) is where you should be concerned. The rest is just car audio envy. Which is fine, just expensive.

I guess it comes down to enclosure design. How much airspace can you fabricate, and which one will work the best?

The only excuse for passive crossovers is their low cost. Their behavior changes with the signal level dependent dynamics of the drivers. They block the power amplifier from taking maximum control over the voice coil motion. They are a waste of time, if accuracy of reproduction is the goal.

Matt, that's the thing, I am not willing to modify my car to make it work. Hence my staunch attitude on the sealed dome mid.

sorry. my bad. I thought the DLS was a cone and I was envisaging some sort of a-pillar build.

and now for something completely different.
