Hey guys,

Ive got some probs with the sound in my car while playing music through my iphone.

Every time i add a 5v charge to iphone while playing, i get some kind of digital interference / noise / garble coming from the speakers..

Im not running 'genuine' apple accessories, but wonder if the apple branded stuff is any better.

Anyone else running a direct iphone connection in their cars and had the same prob?

Any way of filtering out the charging noise?

What one are you useing as in who makes it. Never had a problem with the ones i sell Alpine, stinger and DNA ones.
Also what cd player do you have.

Im currently running an Eonon E628 headunit Eonon E628. Not really using any internal features, apart from the ipod link.

Was designed for ipod charging, then the iphone came along and required additional pins to charge.

Ive got the direct 30pin Ipod cable running into a dock with line out and usb charging... The cable works great, no probs, but as soon as i add charging to the mix, the sound goes all funny.

Just an ebay generic 5V cig light adapter with a mini usb cable into the dock..

Have just ordered myself the Belkin av iphone cable kit Link, will see if that fixes the prob..

Sounds to me like a ground loop. It's quite common.

The easiest way to test this is to somehow isolate the ground on the audio lead - ie connecting left and right, but no negative.

If there is a ground loop you will still get sound but without the interference. If there isn't a ground loop, you will get very little (or no) sound.

Dont think i can test for that as I am using digital, not RCA's.

Do i have to find out which of the 30 pins on the iphone cable are carrying Left Right and Ground?

The problem only exists when I add the usb charge to the dock, so either charger, headunit, dock or iphone causing the prob

Sorry to say it but i think it a combined problem between a few Ebay products that you have.

I had the same issue with my SE P1i and a cheap ebay car charger.
I think the issue was the charger. I changed to a modified Motorola cable (with its associated circuitry) and had no more noise.

Ok, small update..

Have bypassed the dock with the Belkin iPhone av cable and installed the Motorola charger.. The new charger has definitely made a difference in reducing some of the digital charging interference, but it hasn't solved the problem as the noise is still audible..

Maybe run some 8GA directly from the battery to the iPhone charger to eliminate any electrical interference along the way??

yep. Try running a specific ground cable from the charger to a new ground point on the chassis using 14ga wire (like thick speaker wire). Even if it's a temporary one, just to see if that makes any difference.

The only excuse for passive crossovers is their low cost. Their behavior changes with the signal level dependent dynamics of the drivers. They block the power amplifier from taking maximum control over the voice coil motion. They are a waste of time, if accuracy of reproduction is the goal.

Seeing as it's not a genuine cable, it really does seem anything you're doing at this stage is akin to "polishing a turd."

How long could you be chasing this fault when going out and getting a genuine accessory might have fixed it all?

Thought that was the problem too, but have upgraded the cable to a 'genuine' belkin iphone cable... waste of $40, as it made no difference apart from removing the annoying 'this accessory was not designed for iphone' (cheap crap works exactly the same when you are passing the digital signal through, not using the analogue out). seems to be a grounding problem on the charging lead..

Will wire up a fresh power and earth to the dock and see if that makes a difference

I see... Are you absolutely sure it's using digital? It's extremely unlikely that digital has noise interference as most digital connections have pretty comprehensive error correction and the like. You may be percieving electronic noise as "digital" noise as it may not be what you're used to?
