Hey guys I just recently bought a P9 combo 2nd hand off another MEA member and I'm having trouble with no sound at all! If I use the RCA preouts direct from the headunit I do get sound but when using the DEQ processor (with the digital optical cable) I don't have any sound..

All the menus and processing etc work fine with the DEQ and I've double checked all the connections so it's either a problem with the optical cable or the DEQ's RCA preouts (the previous owner ensures it was working perfectly before) - so I suspect the optical cable may have been damaged at some stage.

Does anyone have a P9 optical cable lying around that I could quickly use to test? If not in perth I would pay for postage and pay a small fee as well :)

Cheers guys

If there's no optical, the DEQ should defult to the analog input from the IPBus.

maybe you haven't got the optical turned on? did you try from radio?

Can the IP bus cable carry analog? I didn't know the optical could be turned on or off! How do you do that? There's also no sound from the radio either.

yes, the IPBus carries analog. It's actually quite similar to Alpine's AiNet.

looking at the manual here --> http://docs.pioneer....CRB1643_manual/

on page 85

you need to connect the optical (black) connector to the DEQ, and the IPBus (black) connector to the DEQ.

otherwise it won't work.

also, the first time you power it up, you should do a reset to make sure all the IPBus devices are initialised and picked up by the DEX

You asked if I turned on the optical - maybe you meant to say have you plugged it in? And yep I resetted both the DEX and the DEQ..

I'm a little confused here. So if the optical cable isn't plugged in the DEQ automatically reverts to using the analog signal from the IPBus cable?

I thought that the DEQ can only function digitally from the optical cable otherwise it won't work at all.

From memory, whilst the IPBus carries an analog signal, it doesnt carry it from the CD. Only the radio. The CD is only transmitted over the optical line.

UPDATE: It wasn't the optical cable! It was a faulty IP-bus cable! The previous owner had 2 IP-bus cables (one for the DEQ and one for a CD stacker) so I thought what the hell I'll try swapping the IP-bus cable and low and behold it worked!!

This is such a sweet sounding unit - I can hear so much more detail and my system has come alive! Thanks for everyone's help! :db:

It's probably not faulty, there's 2 types of IP-BUS cables. One will work with it, the other won't.
