Hi Guys,

After leaving RM Audio, I've decided its time to take the plunge and buy a decent car. Ive narrowed it down to either the Audi A5 (either coupe or cab) or BMW E92 Coupe.

SQ wise what size speakers would I be looking at in the front doors, which are massive in both? Could I go 3 ways. I like the 3way elates, 2 way supremos or crecendos.

Amplification will be either Audison or Genisis.

Sub will be an Ultimo.

Processor either a Bit One or the new Mobridge MOST preamp.

Looking forward to any replies from you pro's out there.

Thanks
Antonio

Hi Antonio :)

I'm quite BMW biased, so I'll be saying the E92 coupe :)

Just look at the interior:

WHY WOULD YOU NOT???

The Supremo 2 ways are supposed to sound the goods. I've heard the Elate 3 ways myself and was MEGA impressed. So either one of those would be tops in that car.

BMWs and Genesis is the picture I'm getting in mind. ESPECIALLY with that Ultimo sub.

You planning on going active or passive?

hmmm this is an interesting one.

If the Audi A5 already has the Bang & Olefsun system. It will be able to do 3 way out the box.
If not then 2 way will be the go. But the reality is if you can build. You can install a 3 way in any car just about.

I'm sorry I'm a Audi fanboy, Far more so than BMW. However in this instance I will also recommend the BMW over the Audi.
I drove a Audi S5 Manual for a week or so. It was Fast but no where impressed and had alot of rattles for a car with only 900km's on it.

So go the BMW E92 Coupe.

The A5 would be my pick, or more specifically the A5 sportback. Seen a couple of these on the road in Sydney and they look sweet. Plus Audi do a better interior than BMW IMO.

I really like the E93 335i convertible, best of both worlds.

However the audi A5 is an awesome car, especially with the new automatic instead of the CVT.

I think that standard the BMW on fit 5" speakers or something like that. Out of the two vehicles, purely for stock speaker replacement, which of two vehicles would you recommend.

They are both awesome, and I've been waiting for years to get one of these.

Try 4 inch in the BMW...

I would go with the Audi sportback any day of the week over a BMW ;)

Late generation Audi's seem to take more work to sound competitive in the SQ environment. This has shown, time & time again in many countries. Its not a large gap, just the Audi's are more of a challenge, because of BMW's kick panels and overall crampt footwell, Vs Audi's.
Not all and some Audi's have been just as competitive, but several owners have noted how much harder it was to achieve top-end SQ.
However, if you don't plan on competing, then both cars are great.

I think the door is a 3" or a 3 1/2", 8" woofer under the seat. As for kick there isn't enough space for a woofer or mid on the driver side (hood release is there).

I will go for the BMW if you compare to A5. You can option the DIRAC High End audio system. Only good review on that check this link DIRAC

If you are going for 335ci you should consider S5 to compare. S5 Beautiful.

i've never seen the TOP priority of someone choosing a car to be 'how big are the speakers in the front doors'

either way they are both very impressive cars and you won't disappointed.

either way with the right amount of work you'll achieve great sq in either car.

buy the one you like the most!!!

4" fit easily in the door, a 6.5" works best in the space available under the seat.

Most 3 way sets (except for say the CDT BMW specific set) have too high a crossover point for the midbass, so you might be best going for a 4" set + midbass and semi active, or of course, fully active.

How deep is the space under the seat? I know there is a 8" woofer under there but it is a slim line. Most 6.5" is much to heigh to be fitted in there. I have look in my car and seach everywhere in the web but most of them given up because of the depth. Is there a way to counter that. I am thinking of doing that too. It depend on which 4", most 4" I own can't be fitted. The door trim grill is about 3.5".
