Need to get my setup tuned and i haven't got the time nor the equipment so, who would be the best person/establishment to talk to in the Melbourne area. I am a very fussy and picky person so, only recommendations to really fussy and neat operators please.

Feel free to PM me if that makes it easier!

Phatt Audio Concepts

otherwise....

If you're not doing anything tonight, bring the car around to the docklands bbq in the Victoria thread and one of the boys would only be glad to assist you with your fussiness :) Compare sounds get a feel for what sound you are trying to achieve.

What gear are we talking about here too?

You wouldn't happen to be in Campbellfield, yeah? You're about 5 mins of my place.

Mark at Frankston Car Audio is a top alternative. He is possibly less flat-out, and have more time to slot you in.

Hey Tiger, i am in Campbellfield. You my friend, are a mind reader!! :unknw:
Maybe you have the know to achieve what i want?

Front stage are Rainbow Profi Vanadiums driven by a Clarion DPX 2251
Sub is a Peerless 830847 in a sealed enclosure being driven by a Precision Response mono block.

Also going in will be a Rockford Fosgate 3sixty.2 for tuning. What i want is, to set all the gains to perfection and tune
to achieve the best possible sound in my environment..

I will give both of those guys a call and see what they have to offer..

as for setting gains, have you read the tutorials on this site? they may assist you in adjusting gains yourself.

but yes, also recommend the boys at Phatt Audio Concepts and Mark at Frankston Car Audio...

With some of the equipment that you have there I wouldn't suggest tuning the system yourself.

I would suggest finding someone with experience with 3sixty installations who has an RTA and an oscilloscope.

I know the guys at Autobarn Narre Warren are familure with the processes involved and have the knowledge to fit this equipment and tune your system properly.

Fitting is not an issue, i am very capable in that department.
As HISPL mentioned, the availability of equipment and time is the issue. The only way i would really like to set my gains would be with a oscilloscope. I know a RTA isn't the only way to tune but it will save alot of time, then let the ear do the rest..

Seems there isn't too many options in Vic. What do most of you guys do? By ear or what...

I use an RTA.

The guys at Phatt and Frankston build systems for MEASQ Competition. They have cars - or their own - in the comps, so they know what to aim for in terms of how it sounds. I don't know their exact methods - RTA or otherwise - but they achieve the results!

Trust me, setting your gains on a two-way passive system doesn't require rocket science - it's really not a difficult task for anyone who knows what they're doing. The crossover point is usually the bigger drama with your typical 2-way front stage (such as the Vanadiums) - lack of bottom end extension is one of the biggest problems. I'd say the best compromise would probably be about 120hz @ 24dB, but then you'd need to be pretty spot on with your sychronisation to avoid bass dragging rearwards. The Vanadiums start to roll off arund 160hz (lightly) so if you cross lower then 120hz your likely going to have too large a midbass gap, and if you cross any higher then 120hz you're going to find it too difficult to integrate. Of course you'd need to do some testing in person to see for sure.

IMO that's the most challenging part when it comes to actual tuning of a 2-way passive setup. Sure there is also the option of RTA tuning, but EQ to me is a little like fast food - it works best when used in moderation.

I'm curious about the RF 3sixty.2...

Best tuner in Melbourne area, I highly recommend Mark at Frankston Car Audio. He has an RTA and uses an Osciloscope for line levels, much more accurate than a voltmeter. In regards to the RF3sixty processor have you considered an Audison Bit One, I know Mark has all the softwear to tune if you go the Bit One route.

I actually saw Marc's car last Thursday and saw the Audison in action...

Made the difference. I'm only spewing I didn't hear it BEFORE the Audison was installed.

Frank has one of them in his Honda actually. I'm down his way often enough to pay the Tigress a visit. So I will have to pay him a visit shortly enough. Audiocontrol should follow me for the drive :)
