So, myself and a mate are both creating a CarPC with our EeePC's.

The only thing that we havent been able to do so far is actually find a decent external USB sound card to use. What im looking for is a card that preferably has RCA inputs, but if there is a good quality 3.5mm inputs im sure i can deal with using some adpaters.

Any advice is welcome!!

Cheers,

Wiggles

Hiya Wiggles,

Are you looking for RCA inputs (into the EeePC) or outputs (to head unit etc)?

There are not many good USB sound cards out there - it's a very niche market, however the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi USB may be a good option, its specs are 99dB SNR, 24bit, 5.1 channel output (including 2xRCA L+R speaker outputs), also no external power supply required for installation (draws power from USB)

The creativeLabs AU website shows a RRP of $79.95, and it's about the best value vs quality you will get from a USB device.

Hope that helps :)

Thread should probably be in the carpc / car computer discussions

I wasnt quite sure where exactly to post. Been a couple of years since ive been on the website.

My mate showed me that one earlier, looks good for the price and quality. Im looking for one that will take the output from the EeePC to the amp

EDIT: If a mod wants to move the thread, go right ahead!

I've heard nothing but good things about the E-MU 0404, however it's some serious $s and probably way overkill.

edit: There is a smaller one the 0202 that's a bit cheaper...

Awesome product, Mainly used by DJ's but would suit a multi-amp setup very well.

Expect to pay $150+

Have had a lot of success postprocessing sound using ffdshow filters... can use the processor to re-sample any audio output to 32bit 9600Hz, and 6 channels if you have the extra outputs...

Dont know what the single core atom processors are like with realtime processing, but u can get away with a cheapish external card if you get the cpu to do all the work..

latest win7 pack available here shark007 codec pack

Really like the external usb creative card.. cheap.. all the ins and outs u need.. and a volume knob, that can be very useful if mounted correctly and within reach

@ stupidfingers - Is this the soundcard you are talking about?

Checked their website, and its the only one I can see that matches your desription.

Anyone tried this Asus (Asus Xonar USB). Someone at work has one, says it is nice (good specs too) and its got a nice volume control on the top :)

http://www.eyo.com.a...al_5CH_USB.html

Thanks :)

edit : Just realised the Asus has no RCA's out, makes it a bit useless, unless you go 3.5mm jack to RCa, ubt not sure if there is a degredation in quality.

I've heard of the Xonar ones - apparently quite nice yes.

I use the Behringer ones - not too bad, but not fancy either.

Hey Shizzle,

that be the one I was referring to, although the RRP is now a lot different... maybe I was dreaming at $79 on the creative website? - although doing a quick search you can easily find this under $80 from a lot of online Aus retailers so perhaps the price has been increased in the last month

This product is $59 USD on the US site - not sure why it is $109 in Aus...
