DAYTON AUDIO RS52
They are almost flawless crossed at 3kHz on a 24dB/oct. slope. Hence why I'm getting them.... and mating them with a set of dedicated dual midbass drivers.
Don't restrict yourself to just Vifa or Peerless. Broaden your horizons

As mentioned before, are you looking for a dedicated midrange, or a midrange/midbass driver? Also, what do you plan on crossing your XT25's at?

This is the scenario -
VT Commodore Sedan
Treatment - dynamatted inner and outter doors skins and service holes sealed
Deck - Alpine capable of 3way (has the switch under the deck)
Amps - t320 for tweets , t420 mids , and monoblock for Subwoofer
Subwoofer = 13w6v2 in a sealed enclosure
So i need to run a 2way active setup for now ( with the possibility of going 3way in the distant future ,or possibly never if it sounds good as is lol)
The reason im saying Vifa or Peerless is i have a trade account with Wagners (wes components) they also sell others , dont think they do Dayton ?
the reason for the Tx25 tweeter is it had a good reputation when crossed over at 2.5-3khz and i can get em for under $50 each ( seems good yeah?) the only problem is can a single 6.5" close the gap and sound great also?
i might be able to sqeeze a 7" in the door , but i prefer minimal mods.
my budget for the mids is a round $300 for both , am i dreaming? , what are the peerless HDS exclusive like? or say the Vifa p17 ? are they going to have strong kick-bass and go up to 3khz ?

There are other drivers out there (such as the Seas L16RN i'm using, and the Scanspeak 18W/8535) which absolutely excell in that midbass area, but then have high distortion in the midrange. Very hard to get the best of both worlds, and neither of the above two options is going to work great in a two-way car setup - they just aren't appropriate for the limitations of a car environment.
However, there are two DIY drivers (which WES sell) that are brilliant for two way application - the Scanspeak 7" Revelator, and the Sb Acosutics SB17. The Scan's have a downside in that they ar NOT cheap (around $500/pair even at trade), but they are absolutely one of the best drivers out there for a two way arrangement. Exceptional midbass distortion, exceptionally low midrange distortion, smooth response, extended low end, good sensitivity - they are one of the few speakers out there that doesn't really have a performance weakness...they have a very advanced design (cone and motor) and are just good at everything - hence the price tag. In a car the two biggest problems are:
1) the slit paper cone on the uncoated version may not hold up well to moisture (wasn't an issue in my laser)
2) Q is a bit low for IB
The SB Acoutics SB17 is interesing...it's 80% of a Revelator, for 1/3 the money. Midrange distortion is exceptionally low - on par with the Revelator. Response is almost as flat as Revelator, and even flatter above 1.5khz. Off axis response is superior to Revelator, flat to 2khz even at 60 deg off axis (Revelator goes to maybe 1.70hz). Low frequency extension not quite as good as Revelator, also midbass distortion also not quite as good (though still quite good in both regards). It has higher Q then the Revelator, so it's better suited to a car door...and at <$200/pair from WES they are amazing value for money. Build quality is also regarded as being excellent, and well above what's expected at it's price point.
Recommend a tweeter that can cross at 2khz - 2.5khz cleanly for best results. True of any 2-way system, if the mid is going significantly off axis. XT25s might be ok at 2.5khz on a very steep slope (i.e 24dB) but no lower. SB Acoustics' version (SB29) can handle 2khz/24db, but they werent available from WES last I checked - would prob have to get them from Madisound (USA). Worth it tho - they are as good as the XT25 only with superior low end ability. About $150/paor to get shipped here from the states.
