How can you not get it? You have the entire internet in your pocket wherever you have reception. You have a pretty large song library with you. You can have your entire photo collection with you. You have all your emails with you (this is much better than it sounds, great for holidays with bookings and stuff). The fact that it does actually make phone calls and send messages are just icing on the cake. You get all this in a package your grandmother can use and enjoy. Posted Image

Whats not to get? If you can, see if you can get your hands on one for a week. If you can put aside any bias, you'll find a terrific little handset that does make life better!

If fails at Flash based web content though, this really annoys me actually.

I'm not so certain the iPad is as good, but I'm sure it'll have all the things it should have now, in a few generations.

Looks like a cool install...

Wouldn't mind it in my car for something different...

It's been out for what? 3 days? and all they've done is a mock-up install....

looks cool though as a PC replacement... cheap too, although a bit light-on for storage.

when they get a 1TB version, or even USB or FW external storage, then I'll consider it.

1. I don't need the entire internet on a 3" handheld screen, nor do I need it when I'm out enjoying the better bits of life. I've got the internet when I want it, and it's a lot faster and cheaper than mobile net (plus it plays flash lol)
2. I've got a much bigger song library on my 80 gig ipod :)
3. See above / 6x4 prints have always appealed more to me than an LCD screen
4. If I need to know something in a hurry, I'd rather call than email
5. I happen to know that an Iphone will pretty much chew batteries when you're using it for all the features that make it awesome
6. Apple are great at releasing sleek devices, but remaining completely staid when they omit features you would imagine are essential to a device like that (like a camera worth taking a photo on, decent built in speakers, message tones, ring tones, up until recently copy + paste)

I've used Iphones for hours at a time, long enough to well & truly get used to the gestures, features, the on screen keyboard, accelerometers, etc etc and they are a brilliant device. They are well made, intuitive, sleek, impressive, and save for their glaring omissions, are good at doing a lot of things.
But there is absolutely nothing about an Iphone that makes me want one... unlike, for example, the Palm T2 I forked out for many years ago. I saw that, and couldn't NOT buy it. I got more excited about my Nokia 6120c beater phone than I did when the Iphone came out.

I'm not a hater, but they just don't appeal to me.
I'll leave it at that though so we don't drag it OT.

Its called getting old Big V.

I still don't have a facebook account, never used twitter, and have no use for an iPad.

My parents think I am nuts for listening to house music, installing a huge sound sytem in my car, and wasting money on a gaming computer.

It happens to us all :)

I suppose it's because if I get a really complex heavy phone, it hurts my hip more when it's in my pocket :violin:

My interest in the latest & most easily superseded gadgets has dropped right off in recent years... leaves plenty of money for more fun things :) back to rollaclub to find my next track car :good:

Anyone who has ever considered a carpc would have thought of using the Ipad the day it was unveiled, hell even I did.

Fair enough, can't argue with that! Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

I agree with BV and his rant, but I guess I'm getting old now as well.

As for the Ipad, too big and too limited in functionality IMO.

Well it seems as though this is the best use for such a device, just wait till the 3G one is out, Epic GPS/multimedia device right there.
http://www.autoblog....-simple-mainta/
same company, but a slightly easier design.
Seems like a really viable option to get the 3G version when it is out (although ~$1000) as GPS HU's will cost over that (just have the ipad and the alpine 9887)
