Hey all, hooked up my system finally the last few days and it's all working fine atm...

From a safety point of view I'm wondering if my processor (alto mobile UCS PRO) which has 2v inputs will cope fine with my Denon DCT-Z1 (which has 4v preouts).

If they are compatible, when is it borderline - when the volume is up or ??

Is there another unit that won't affect SQ I can place inline to lower the preout voltage of the Z1?

Thankyou

As you've written Sean, most h/u's only really start putting out their hi-voltage on the last 1/5 (or even higher) of the volume scale.

You could check by having the Z1 alone play a 50hz or 60hz tone CD (download and burn if need be) and then checking the output voltage with a multimeter set onto AC volts, compare voltages with volume setting and make a note of what volume equaled what voltage.

Preouts are typically 'peak-to-peak' voltages (ie: 4V p-p). As per syd, that might occur at full volume on the Denon, playing test tones.

When you play music, the output voltage (more like 'RMS') is about 1/3 of the p-p. So at full volume on the Denon playing music, the RMS voltage will be about 1.3V. So your processor can obviously cope.

For sure this time :)

Thanks for letting me use your place to set it up last week - and Simon too for fixing all my issues when I got the processor awhile ago!
