Heya,

I recently came into possesion of a cap (2 farad soundstream). I would like to use this in my install, but have read in the past conflicting opions on the best place to put it. I know it is nota bandaid fix, and truth be, I am not trying to 'fix' anything.
So, is is best to use the cap on the midbass amp, or the sub? Midbass amp is 200wx4, running 6.5" Oz's and horns; bass amp is 800w running a JBL Gti 15".
Logic tells one the sub amp, as it uses more power, but I read somewhere that it is better on the midbass (cannot remeber the reason now).

anyhoo, opinions welcome
thanks

As close as possible to the power terminals of the sub amp. :)

Electricity travels at pretty much the speed of light depending on the conductor quality, so I don't see how distance matters as everything is in parallel to the capacitor anyway. I'd love to hear other opinions though :)

Midbass - Pulse-R made a post explaining why a cap was more useful for midbass than subbass (quite a while ago, but the search function should turn it up)

Midbass/treble amp - for a subtle improvment in dynamics from the midbass and 'air or transparency' as you move into your treble.

This is where I noticed the benefits the most in systems past.

(Anyone selling a couple of good quality 1+ Farad caps? - I'm after a couple for my system)

If the cap is grounded to the chassis it will help the vehicle not just the amps.. as is the case with the Aerpro 2F cap I've had for a while now..

Anywhere in the electrical system, power flows in a circuit so quickly that the affect you get I feel would be neglible as to where it is placed, however im not arguing with peoples findings so take it as you may. :)

Power both. Just run it into a distribution Block and then split the power to the 2 amps.

the cap placement, as long as it's 'near' an amp will provide assistance. you can't tell the electrons which amp to go to - they'll go to the one drawing most power.

thanks for all the info guys. The answers make sense, and allow me to install the cap with confidence now.

Cheers,
