How good are they?

Also apparently threre where different series ( blue vs black ) , differences from one to the other?

Thinking of getting rid of my old alpine v12s , an improvement?

Ta.

Audison remain amongst my favourites. But then again, I haven't used a heap of top-spec amps.

You are specifically referring to the LRx series. The superceded blue models are still really nice. Great sound quality and nicely built, and look good. There have been some issues with blown power supplies/internals; but these seem to be very unusual, and if it hasn't already happened (to a secondhand amp), I doubt it should ever happen. It's often blamed on poor power delivery to the amp: battery, wiring, alternator issues; low voltage is presumably bad. But I would still buy them if I wanted an amp in that price bracket and quality.

The current black models are meant to offer even better SQ, and took designs and features from the superceded VRx models.

I don't think there's much between them, but I have not done directly comparisons. My experience is mostly with VRx models.

Typical of all Audison amps, they are relatively complex to set/tune, compared with most others. This refers to setting input modes, output modes, xovers, phase, boost, subsonic, etc, etc. Most models have a lot of featuers, and are very configurable; moreso than most other amps, hence the complexity. So it pays to read the manuals very carefully, and ensure you understand exactly what you are doing.

The sonic signature of Audison is often described as: fantastic clarity and dynamics, open soundstage, a little reserved in the top-end (high frequency treble), but very warm vocals; arguably this is due to some form of distortion, but it's not a negative feature IMO. In comparison, my Alpine F1 Status MRV-F900 is extremely clean, so what you get is what you feed into it; I honestly don't like this quite as much. Speakers will play a more important role, and make more difference than the amp though.

Some people will have had experiences with various combinations of speaker and amp. So perhaps explain what speakers, sub, HU you will be using: MBQ and JL?

Compared with Alpine V12, I would say there is a difference worth having.

i'm really not sure that there's any difference between the two amps you have shown.
Both are LRx series. Any small changes that may have been made between the two would almost certainly not be audible.

However, i have the LRx5.1k 5-channel amp and it's fantastic. Some odd quirks to do with having to use the sub xover filter in order to get (much) better output and quality, but all in all a VERY nice amp

what amps in particular are you looking at getting, what are your requirements and budget?

I'm running oz audio splits at the front and thinking about running the front bridged , or the back to the jl sub , I want to get the lrx 6.9 so down the track when I go 3way active , I can use this one amp for the splits and get a mono for the sub, good idea?

Could be a good way to go. Just ensure the amp offers as much power as you need: it's good, but not huge power. Some midwoofers may warrant more power, in which case a 4-channel + 2-channel can be better (ie: a powerful 2-channel just for the midbass woofers). The LRx6.9 has a good xover setup; only that channels C (5 and 6) have a LP filter, and no HP filter (ie: not bandpass). So the HU or processor would need to provide the HP for the midwoofers (eg: 80Hz HP), whilst the amp can provide the LP (eg: 500Hz LP).

I've seen the specs. For 3-way active, if each driver is 4ohm, you are talking about 4x70 + 2x75WRMS. 1ohm stability and power specs are irrelevant. And many drivers are higher than 4ohm (ie: 6ohm or 8ohm), so the power is even less.

Yeah I know, I'm sure it will push 3ways to loud enough ( for my tastes (sq)) levels ,

But VRx are discontinued, so 'secondhand' is the only likely option (you'd be lucky to find 'brand new', though they probably exist). This leaves the Thesis series, which are no doubt superb, but so is the price. If you can afford them, awesome, but you'd also want to justify the expense by having equally good speakers, HU, sub, and top notch installation and tuning. I say it'd be worth it for sure, but not everyone would consider it good value.

There is no difference between the Blue and Black in specification.
Audison simply moved to a new color scheme, all Audison amps are now black.

Hope that answers your question.

Especially equipment and installers.

A bad installer won't blame his tools or his skill, he'll blame the equipment!

Oh, I totally missed that these are the same updated LRx models! I thought the 'blue' version posted by the OP was referring to the older series LRx, like this:
