Morel vs Morel

As much as I like my current tweeters, I'm always on the look out for something better.
I don't need anything that will necessarily play lower than what the 23's are doing now, as I have the very nice CDM88 mids as well, (see my sig below for the list of all gear) but I am under the impression that the Piccolo sound, whilst still having Morel's sweet sound, is just, well...better.
I'd be really keen to know from those who have experienced BOTH in their systems, or are somewhat familiar (as a minimum) with both, any observations and opinions that you could draw.
And also, given the additional cost, was it really worth it?
Cheers

I'm also familiar (to a lesser extent) with the picollo tweeters, through judging Advanced 2 this season in VIC (namely shiny's set-up).
although the picollo's have better performance (extend further in both directions of the frequency range), i'm not really a fan of their 'sound' - imo, they have a rather dry, almost mechanical sound which is quite unnatural.
of course you can use eq and installation methods to help with this (as we have found with shiny's car this season, the highs have progressively improved from round to round), but i think the MT23s are a much easier tweeter to 'get right'.
if you don't need your tweeter to play very low, i don't really see any advantage to changing to the picollos. there are (arguably) better tweeters out there for a 3-way system that cost less than the picollos (more large format, but there are some smaller/car format tweeters too)

maybe look into getting the Elate LE tweeters.. they are the MT-24LE which is a step up from the MT23, without going the "supremo" route..

Having said that, I've only ever ran them as 2way so I do utilise the low(er) frequency response the Picollos give. I have mine crossed at 2k

Spyne, what you have described would seem consistant with what would happen with most drivers as they get used over time.
It would be good to hear how they go with some more hours behind them...
Damo95, you're a bad, bad boy, showing me that link...grrrrrr...niiiiice speakers.
Broadz, what you're saying is what I'm suspecting, in that just maybe the benefit of the Picollos wouldn't be realised in my system because it's a 3 way front stage. The MT23's really are superb, and I hope that I can get them even better. But, I just can't help but think that I can do better...
What is interesting is the fact that in the LE speaker set, it was the upgraded MT23 that as matched with the CDM88/Elate 6SW instead of the Piccolo.
Perhaps the Piccolo really comes to the fore when used in a two way front stage? Yes?
Maybe the MT24LE could be the go instead. <--- That's me thinking out loud.
Keep it coming guys.
Damn, those 6SWLE woofers look the secks too!

I used to have MT23's and they were quite nice, but lacked detail compared to picollo's, and had a bit of a rough edge to the sound... the picollos are much smoother sounding - more 'refined'.
I think a lot of the difference is due to the integrated face plate - helps control the dispersion better.

When my new pods are completed this weekend, my MT23's will have a larger and very slightly concave (horn loaded) baffle that will actually be slightly larger than the Piccolo face plate. This baffle will be sound deadened (carpet). I wonder if this will make them perform as the Piccolo does in some respects. The other thing too is that (and you will eventually see this in my build thread) the tweeters are mounted almost 180 degrees off axis anyway.
The difficulty is that I do not know anyone up here with Piccolo's so I can listen for myself. In as much as I like my current tweeters, I would welcome more detail. I have listened to and liked various Focal tweeters. Their air and extension is fantastic but they can also sound a bit too, umm, technical (?). I would love to get something that gives this detail, while still remaining involving and musical.

i suppose morel wanted a Limited Edition Elate set, hence the use of the refined MT23... they already have a supremo set, which uses the picollo...
you should ask Mark (Frankston car audio) about the Elate LE's as he has the 2 way in his civic....

i have just spoken to Mark (Frankston Car Audio) and he mentions that the MT24LE is similar to the picollo, just a smaller footprint and doesn't play quite as low as the picollo..
oh, and you cant buy them individually but he does have 1 more pair of Elate LE's in stock....

Looks like it's Piccolos then even though using a 3 way system means I wont be using them across their full range...if I can justify the cost.
I had considered other brands but I know that I like the characteristics of the Morel tweeters and have done so for a few years now. I was thinking of going for a set of G2 Aurum Cantus ribbons the same as in my home speakers but the back end on those things is MASSIVE. Supremos are tiny by comparison. The sound is to die for though...
