Actually this brings up a small interesting thing I wanted to ask also.

Any components have to be commercially availiable in australia correct?

I'm currently running with all ARC audio amps in my car, and wan't to buy a small un-powerful amp to run a set of ambient tweets - something small enough to hide under a seat, and that wont be too powerful.

Unfortunately, ARC Audio's least powerful amps are the 2100-xxk (2x100) and 4150-xxk (4x80). Both of these are IMO overkill for running ambients, and both are too big to reasonably fit under my seat.

While ARC do build 2050 and 4050 (2x50, 4x50) both amps are not officially availaible in australia. Nor is their lower end KAR range.

This means that I have two options:
1) break my 'all arc' setup
2) get an amp from the US into pro class

I clearly don't have the knowledge or experience comparable to those in pro class (i've only been really into car audio for about a year or two) so this kinda sux :(

Just wondering, is there at all any 'exceptions' to this rule? I.e. since all of my other equipment was bought legitimately here in aus, then can i get away with using a relatively insignificant component (like an ambient amplifier) from the US?

I will eventually upgrade to a HXD2, so running them off the source unit is also a non-option.

Kinda seems like an odd rule to me.. because it's not like it really takes a years of experience and expertise in car audio to order an amplifier from another country.

This is not a bitch session, i'm just curious. If this would bump me to pro class, then I will just settle for an amp other then ARC for the ambients, no problems at all. Just that i'd prefer arc thats all:)

Muzzy, perhaps you should think about the rules first.

If the product is available via special order from the Australian distributor of Arc Audio (Steve Hutchinson) then I see no problem with it.

I suggest you contact Steve Hutchinson (or your local Arc Audio dealer) and ask if its possible to get the amplifiers you wish in the next shipment.

Bingo. Australian-sourced via a dealer and delivered. No problem.

Marcus, what if a unit is bought from overseas (cheaper), but is available here for purchase?

We're not interested in where the product was purchased as it would be impossible to police.

Impossible with the resources we have. Unless we made everyone carry their system purchase receipts with them at competitions, which is unrealistic and still open to forgery.

Nothing wrong with the rule as is.

My only reason is that there are compeition like EMMA and IASCA that I have been competing in South East Asia. In the rules book it clearly state that for Street smart (IASCA) & Amature Unlimited (EMMA) , "competitor must not qualify as pro in the other competition format." So if I compete in CAASQ in pro class then I am disqualify as an amature and will be bump into pro. All pionts from this season will not carry over. Technically I will be disqualify for the final in both EMMA and IASCA.

The different between Amature and Pro is mainly where the fund come from isn't it. If I own a shop or represent a company then I will be competing in pro. This is clean and clear. Say if after a few comp I got a job in the industry then I will move to pro in that same season. Sure enough this rule will have to apply for all with no exception isn't it? No exception to be made, I will make my self comply with the rule. that mean all gears from retail outlet, installation by myself Or might need some help if time is too limited.

:D So far so good I haven't got any gear arrived at my door yet. Sound like a yummy fry nuddle at the back of my car......... Hey something smell ........ somehow. Hopefully not thing burn during my dodgy installation.
