Just finished building new PC (well, almost - still to fit SSD drive)

cost including Win7-64 $ 1956

Specs:

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2 GHz (200 x 16)
Asus Crosshair IV Formula
G.Skill Trident 2133MHz rams 4x 2GB + Fan @ 1600 MHz, 9,9,9,24,1T
XFX GTX280 XXX (from old PC)
XFX 8600GTS (from old PC, for PhysX)
Corsair HX850 PSU
2x Seagate 250GB SATAII HDD (Raid 0)

results (no overclock 3210 MHz):
Passmark = 2015.6
3DMark06 = 18627

results (moderate overclock 3765 MHz (250x15):
Passmark = 2281.4
3DMark06 = 19320

any suggestions? I don't want to change the GPU at this stage, unless I get a GTX295 or another GTX280.

I'd like to get more speeds

How hot does the X6 run?
I have an x4 955 which runs uber hot, even with aftermaket hsf... was contemplating upgrading to an x6 1090t as they are supposed to run so much cooler (hence quieter).

the X6 doesn't break a sweat - even overclocked it's cooler than the NB/SB sensors at about 35ºC

new figures now, with SSD disc @ 250x 14.5 (3625 MHz), ram at 2000MHz, 7,7,7,20

Passmark = 2077

haven't done the higher speed again yet - been busy.

also a note: the SSD disc won't run properly with the old HDD offset value, so I had to reinstall. that didn't take long.

HDD speeds:
old
read = 126 MB/s, write 54MB/s

SSD
read = 243 MB/s, write 74MB/s

Raid0 SATAII drives:
read 174MB/s, write 168MB/s

seems more sprightly with the SSD disc, but not really "faster" per-se.

Windows 7 rating = 7.6 now :)

Brian - it's hooked up to the 46" telly with home theatre amp/speakers

get another SSD and run them in RAID 0 and you'll double your R/W times and increase your comp speed.
What SSD have you purchased, As those write figures are pretty low if it's a Sandforce model

looks good Simon, very nice PC you have there.

You plan on putting adding some nice CPU cooling for summer though?

It's the (slightly) older Intel X25-M.
cheaper than the new 'super fast' ones, but still a lot faster than a spinning disc.
I couldn't get Win7 to install on the raid, as it needs the AHCI/RAID driver loaded in order to even see it... might have to think about that one for a little bit.

I'll need to increase the NB cooling first, and maybe something with a larger fan for the CPU.
The stock cooling is adequate for now, with max temps around 55ºC under full (gaming) load at 3750MHz.

I'm having a couple of niggling issues with windows not booting when I install a 3rd GPU card.. DOS/everything else is fine... working on that one now.

And I need a bigger case, or some magical superior cable routing plan.

can't fit 2x GTX470's in there because the HDD's are too long
I think for that I'll ditch the fancy HDD brackets and screw the buggers in further along or something.. maybe make a 5-1/4" HDD caddy for all the drives

You can buy them.
Turns 2 x 5.25 into 3 x 3.5 or 3 x 5.25 into 4 x 3.5.

Search for "raid cage".

Moved the Hard drives up into the empty top section..

Thats still fuggen impressive. On a score of 1-7.9, your lowest is a 7.5, highest a 7.8!

95% lowest score, with a 97% average ain't too shabby in my books!

get one of them Corsair Force3 SSD hard drives... instant 7.9 on the Disk section.

I found the easiest program to transfer the primary drive is EaseUs TODO - free version, works flawlessly and free
