MEA[SA]'s Social & Off Topic Discussion Thread

Just thought i'd start a thread to get an idea of where people are at with their builds and what's the go? I know leading up to AAS we were all over the build threads but things have dropped back abit and just curious to see where people are at and what they're working on.
I'll start with myself and P.Siddy:
Most of you remember the spectacular sendoff we gave our 9915's at Adelaide Autosalon,
Obviously at AAS one of the woofers was totally gone and we took him apart - Sam made a huge effort of reattaching the spider on the day but it was only ever going to hold up for so long.
Upon taking the car home we found that the other woofer also had a serious case of coil-rub and was on its last legs.
Regardless we decided to push on and temp install it in Sam's laser for abit of SPL at the Marvey comp.
The day before the comp it was doing 149's in testing, however upong firing it up at Marveys Sam experienced some pretty major failure and decided to call it a day after the first burp to avoid any damage to the amp.
Since then we've given Siddy a break (literally?) in order to recoup the finances and get recoils going.
I am pleased to say that AMG have come to the rescue with some recones and Siddy will be burping again in the coming few weeks.
They had some regular 9515 recones available in stock and have sent them over to get us going while we get the box tuned and setup properly. I think our plan is to get the car burping again so we can get the box right, then look at sezzy new recones maybe later down the track.
Personally i'm also keen to triple up all the runs between the batteries on the bank now that we're happy with the arrangement - got plenty of Knu cable left over so there's no reason why not.
There you have it guys - that's the update on Siddy, other than that i've taken some time to work on my garden and catch up with the rest of the Team SS family.

And these wire cutters (soo much easier for 0 gauge)

And I have in transit a new metering system, capable of 50-186Db and 3-30000Hz. And is supposed be as accurate as a TL and within .1Db. When I receive it I will write up a review and let people know where its available from. May still be 3 weeks or more in transit though

I'm super-curious about this meter, if you want, when it arrives you can come around and meter a couple of cars so we can do a proper back to back test with the TL... could be a bargain buy for some of the guys getting interested in testing at home without the huge cost of a TL

I usually get crimp lugs through a friend who works at BOC gas n gear, but unfortunately they still cost a fair bit anyway

Hmmn okay Ill have a look thanks.
Yeah it could end up being a great cheaper alternative, and honestly as long as it gives consistent results it should be great for testing on the cheap
I will let everyone know when It arrives, we can organise a meet sometime. See what she can do

I like the idea of another "show n tell" meet where we all bring our latest little developments along like we did last time at the Brighton meet.

Also apparently as the sensor just outputs voltage you can read the voltage with an accurate multimeter and convert the voltage to Db... Useful if you only have access to the small sensor and a multimeter.
The sensor itself looks exactly like the TL sensor, except the suction caps arnt either side of the mic they are mounted on the side of the device so the mic ends up 90degrees to the window.

And its supposed to be N.I.S.T calibrated like the Termpro/lab
It is also supplied with a calibration sheet.
Thats basically all I know lol, ill find out more when it arrives haha

edit: my mistake, apparently it can interface to a computer.

otherwise you can use a multimeter and a chart or small program on the computer to work out the Db

A-pillar tweeter mounts still need a bit more bog then will get covered with acoustic cloth, 9887 needs to be sold off when the DVA-9861 gets here, hook up the PXA-H701 processor so I can go fully active, glass up some sealed enclosures for the 8" in the doors, and last but not least, some testing with the 3515 when I get the chance.
Doug, if your after some crimps give a couple of local places a ring, these were recommended to me through uni for decent prices:
- Key Tubing & Electrical Industries
- Noremak Industries

ive also finally relocated my head unit, ananlogue volt mete, and switches to make room for my touchscreen for the reversing camera and future carputer
yesterday i finally got the damn cast off my arm so after my muscles have regained strength i can get back into fiddly little things that i havnt been able to do yet, such as dynamatting my passenger door, and playing around with some BCM bits and pieces with the help of the other tech at work
oh yeah and i bought a couple of jaycar 8"s yesterday too for the crazy 8's challenge... box building may commence this weekend

I would eventually like to do more work on the boot spoiler lip, it's in better shape than it's ever been, the potential is still there so I have to keep at it.
I got all my parts for the RCA group builds yesterday so that's going to suck up a bit of time, but I have a new supplier and I can now get a whole lot more car and electronic stuff at trade prices, so that will be handy for all SA members. 15" subs under $100? Who said that?
I am also looking forward to finishing my home theatre system, I have speakers that are partially finished, I will add some photos to my build log as I go.
Finally, among a few installs I am doing for others, I am going to be building a few 4th order boxes and experiment with smaller drivers, it may turn into a testing setup for crazy 8s. The Beep Beep is getting an SQ install which has been planned for a while now, and there are some other special cars I'm going to be doing special installs on, so keep an eye on build logs.
DOUGEE - I will have a look at suppliers tonight for lugs. I might be keen on going halvesies on a box of 50.

Now the price - $2 each provided we order a box of 100. I already have dibs on 40 lugs so that leaves us with 60 to split between the rest of y'all.
Who wants in and how many do you want? i prefer to take payment with your order as you can imagine a box of 100 will come out to $200, and i don't exactly wanna foot the bill myself when i only need less than half of that.
PM me if you want any, first in best dressed - soon as the order tallies up to 100+ lugs i will get the box and let you guys know they're ready to pick up.

When i'm crimping a 70mm lug with 0ga, i normally use a 50mm die up top and a 70mm die on the bottom, crimps perfectly every time.
