I agree that this thread is full of very handy advice.

I'll put out there, I do try my best to research and ask questions on here when I'm unsure about something. I'd much rather ask than impulse into something and end up with it sounding crap (like my first install, which for some reason, wasn't all that bad :| )

Out of my three systems, my current one is the best in terms of research and products and wiring and what not..
First system consisted of cheap crap (eg $50 rampage sub, $80 ebay amp, old kenwood headunit, rampage 8awg wiring and rca's, 6x9's)
Second system was much better, but still entry level (2x alpine type s subs, monoblock, 4 channel amp, splits, aerpro 2awg wiring kit, rockford rca's, alpine headunit)
and current system is still pretty entry level, but has much nicer gear (rockford 5 channel, alpine type s sub, possibly old splits, shok industries 0awg wiring and rca's)

I will admit impulse spending is a very bad habit I have.. Got pressured into buying my rockford amp... Also impulse bought the alpine subs, shok wiring and rca's... But at least I researched a little before buying.

And as for the friend doesn't know point. You couldn't be more right. I have friend who know what they are talking about, but are very brand bias, and other friends who don't, and think that cheap sony xplode stuff is wicked as. Kinda why I came on here, to get a varied, and experienced view.

And for your blood pointer. One of the reasons I like to let the pro's do it xD The other reason is I haven't really the space or tools :/ But this time I'm thinking I might attempt some of it. At least if I can borrow my friends place and tools for a bit.. or his expertise in the art of wood works :D

But again, Very very good lessons :)

^^^ That times a thousand. With Car Audio you seriously cannot take enough time. DO NOT RUSH or impulse buy anything. You will get a dodgy result and a poorly constructed system. This is from current expperience with my Sub stage :-( haha. Leason learnt.

perhaps another small point..be honest with yourself as to what you want the system to do and sound like , it'll make your choices and hopefully advice given more accurate to what you want.

I agree, and don't let people say "this is a better sound set of speakers" ifs less your chosen cheapie crap ones because your taste almost definitely will be different to theirs.

When i do mine i always list what im gunna do and in what order, And I always draw a rough diagram that marks where all my wires are going to run (like this one)
