well the first thing i need to do is say that i am buying a new/old car. (gq patrol) and becasue the previous owner hasnt had an immobiliser fitted and now the lows in WA have changed, i have to get one installed. shouldnt be a prolbem. well it is. the local mechanics have pretty much fked the barinas engine so they arent touching the trol. 2nd there is no auto sparky for 300k.
so...
1. i need a immobiliser/alarm with central locking outputs.... so throw up some suggestions
2. i need to be able to install it myself.
3. no idea what else i need to know about alarms.....

cheers

Alarms and immobilisers are a pain in the ass. I avoid them completely.

They are hard to install, and even harder to install properly. A poorly installed immobiliser isn't worth installing in the first place.

Unfortunately this alone qualifies you for the 'take it to an installer' category. Don't take it the wrong way, but vehicle security can get quite difficult and if you've never installed before it can way too overwhelming and introduce possibilities of damage to the car's electrical system. Feel free to pm me if you're still keen to go ahead and ill help as much as i can...

come on guys, we live in a new era of technology. you can pretty much learn everything you need of google for nearly anything. there is plenty of resources just need to find the right ones.

people always say that you should take things to someone qualified, where truth of matter is most of them do poor jobs not because they cant do good ones, but because they want to cut time and minimize effort to save money thus profit(purpose of business). this happens from "reputably installers" twisting and taping, to mechanics with bad workmanship. My last alarm install was done poorly by the shop i took it to

thus to know what you want done inside out before taking it to someone will let you know if you have a good job after since you can check. but to do it yourself will probably be best. for a good install most places wont even take the time, because they would charge too much

anyways here is some links to alarm installs that you can learn of. suggest to you to READ READ READ LEARN LEARN LEARN UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND then re repeat till its second nature

http://www.honda-tec...d.php?t=2108744
http://www.honda-tec...d.php?t=2368830
http://causeforalarm...ion7/index.html

read thousand times and soon will be an expert. i based my current alarm install on those threads and i believe have a good outcome

1. suggest aussie alarms dynamco and mongoose. remember wires have to be black so dont buy ebay color wired spec immob. you can pick a good one starting at 100 thats pretty basic and most of them have central locking output

hope that helps

what happens when the windscreen leaks and water gets into the car?

fail #1.... just sayin.

you can not suggest someone just learn learn learn off google. if everybody did that, NOBODY would go to work because they could just do it themselves.
if you have the capacity to learn something, then by all means, go ahead. but most people dont have an idea about electronics, or only have one car so dont want to just keep practising until they get it right. what if they do some serious damage by making a mistake. costs involved could be enough to turn anybody off doing it again. then where's your trusty installer? he's gonna tell you where to stick it because you turned down his quote in the first place.

when the windscreen leaks and water gets into the car, the other electrical components are going to get damaged as well as the immob, if you install it under seat or under dash or under steering column. we had a huge storm in perth last year, and heaps of cars got water damaged from hale smashing windscreens. some cars were ok after windscreen change, but a year onwards are showing the damage the water has caused to the electric system.

there is also alot of cars with fuse boxs/ecu/electrics near the ground of the floor of the car, but this is not common that much anymore.

also that is just an example of an install, others choose to put it in different positions.

i agree with you to some degree. not everybody should attempt a immob/alarm install. but you can suggest for people to learn of google.
this is not for everybody, but lots of people(specially into cars/car audio) have the ability and want to learn about this aspect.

now i dont know hsvmonarogen3 but he is willing to learn. the least it could do is teach him about it.

all i am trying to do is give people some resources to be able to learn about alarms/immob. this could be helpful to people that try to attempt an install

I've installed 2 alarms, there really isn't much to it.
one has remote engine start as well.

but.

if you're having to ask on here how to do it, then you shouldn't be doing it.

Did anyone else notice that this isn't Australian Standards compliant because it doesn't have an all-black loom?

If you didn't, don't install alarms.

black wiring is only an issue if you want a reduction in your insurance which if you're installing it yourself probably won't happen anyway.

I wired up my own alarm once, luckily, it was in a crappy old 93 sunchicken (pontiac sunbird). I had it all working at the start, I soldered my connections, etc. However right before I sold the car things were getting wonky. As far as the wire harnesses went.... chop suey... I wish it had been a mostly factory plugin system.

All that said, that was when I was 18, I'm 30 now, and would probably do it again myself, however, I'll be stripping the whole damn car for dynamat, and doing all the wiring with all factory paneling removed. I wouldn't recommend it for a first time. I learned a lot of "bad ideas" from my install. I sure hope the next owner of that car didn't ever look under the dash public/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif

im more inclined to suggest if you are not confident than maybe take your partner ( if applies ) out for a nice couple day holiday 300k away.

i now it sounds like a pain :) but srs it is a easy job to screw up and if you need to drive 300k to get it done well may as well book a B&B and make a holiday out if it

facepalm at idea of using google to learn from, some of my worst mistakes have come from following directions i found on google

I am a very lazy idividual, I'd just get an immobilser relay, you get a remote and 1(or more) relays that you throw in place of a standard relay, you can put it on your fuel pump or whatever, pretty sure you can get them with a perimeter sensing system so you don't even have to push a button.

Relay
Volvo 2001 S60T5
HU- Blaupunkt Bremen
Front Midbass- CDT ES06
Front Mid- CDT HD2
Front Tweeter- CDT ES010
Amp1- Soundstream Tarantula TR800/5(Runs tweeters mids and sub)
Amp2- Zapco Ref 75.2(Runs front midwoofers)
Nothing good ends in phile.
