Hi all,

I've been hunting around for a reasonable quality 10" sub to competently perform in a small sealed enclosure in my 2006 STI. It's a simple application that will get close to 400W rms from 2 bridged channels on my amp.
I had my heart set on a Boston G310-4, but following some advice from here - it needs 1+ cu ft sealed to even start sounding good.
I'd contacted Marty at FHRX (what a champ!) & he's strongly suggested the Rainbow Hammer 10" in a tiny, tiny, tiny sealed enclosure!
I'm stuggling to find ANY reviews on these Hammer's & chasing some feedback on the brand & model, please?

Cheers

Darren.

I have installed a Hammer 12" in an identical STI! :)

It was running from approximately 400w of bridged Audison SRx 2-channel, in a ~1.2 Cu Ft sealed box in the spare wheel well. My impressions were that it's not as truly dynamic as say an IDMAX or Morel Ultimo, but I would compare it well to an IDQ of the same size. Similar box requirements and similar sounds, great at output on fairly low power and relatively enjoyable sound. Quite well made woofers as well.

I have no doubt a 10" version would still get low in a <1 cu ft box, but output may be a little more limited if you go much smaller than 1 cu ft, depending on what you want from it that may be acceptable. 0.7-0.8 cu ft is still a small box if it's built with the car in mind and should be OK for output.

Cheers Val.

Crazy that you'd done a near on identical install!:silly:
We are talking an enclosure of 14.5 litres NETT - with a near ideal 'Q' for my STI. Crazy stuff!
These Hammers are much cheaper in price than the ID & Morel's!

As mentioned your other thread, and having had experience with a Focal BUS25 in an 01 WRX under the passenger seat, i still think this is the best option. :P I really think you'd be surprised at how well it actually performs.

That said - i can certainly appreciate you wanting to try something different and push the envelope as such, so kudos to you! :good: I'll be watching to see how it turns out. :)

I should disclose that I've not read his other thread. But Rick; you're not going to tell me a BUS25 will outperform a Hammer 10 are you champ? :P

Well, i don't know. If he can get enough air volume for the Hammer then i'm sure it will be awesome, and superior to the BUS25. If he's going to compromise with a tiny tiny enclosure (we are talking under a seat here) then performance may also be compromised - in which case, the BUS25 probably would go better, true?

If he can get the ideal volume from the enclosure, then go the Hammer. :)

I'm curious to know if Marty commented on the ID10v3 in comparison to the Rainbow.

I will try and model both.

When it comes to the ID range of subwoofers Rich (of which I'm a big fan); I've found that the Hammer subwoofers tend to model just that little bit better in extremely small enclosures. :(

Fair enough. :good:

Though it was the 'ID' (rather than IDQ) I had suggested when I was asked by deafwish, because of the budget. Plus, I wasn't made aware of exactly how small the enclosure needed to be; only 'small'.

IDQ is pretty deep too I suppose, which could pose a problem.

Just to clarify, is this being installed under your seat, or have you moved away from that option?

There's no way I could fit anything over about 0.3 cu ft under the seat - without significant work.
I plan to rear load this in the boot.
Never something I thought I'd do but I'm keen to see how this sounds IRT SQ!
Maybe I'm getting old?! Lol!

Ahh! Well then, that clears up the confusion in regards to the BUS25 comparison. :)

I doubt you will be disappointed with the Hammer! :good:
