I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread for second hand bargains in SA.

If you see some decent shizzle in a Cashies/Pawn shop here in SA, POST IT UP :)

Seen this for $150 recently, do any of you guys think it'd be worth getting just to have for a 2-channel music setup?

http://martinsen.com...er/d409imgs.htm

Has no HDMI or Component, i'd really just look at running it off a stand-alone CD player for some musical listening.

Thoughts?

Not audiophile by any means but a pretty good pickup for $150 i reckon. Would definately do the job.

Hey Sorin,
I have a Pioneer 7.1 channel receiver...and quite frankly, sound quality wise its not that nice.

Mines a newer version of the one you posted up....

I'd seriously question buying that :) You would be better off with a basic 2 chan amp

Thanks for the heads up dude. What 2-channel amps do you recommend?

Personally, anything which has a recognisable brand name, and is heavy. Basically it means it has a linear power supply, which is good.

Take the mains power consumption (watts) rating and divide it by four, it's a very basic output power measure per channel for two-channel amps.

But in general, it's hard if you're buying second hand to recommend anything in particular as there are many good buys out there. :)

Additionally, anything of a discrete amplifier is quite often of fairly good quality (ie uses transistors instead of one whacking great power amplifier all-in-one IC.) However, as we know from Simon's rotel, which is a chip amplifier, they're not all bad.

Out of curiosity langas, does the pioneer have a switchmode supply?

Nope, its linear....Has a massive transformer

Spec wise, its not all that bad. Motorolla 48bit DAC etc. BUT....I couldn't get it sounding that nice. Admittedly, I probably havn't persisted enough with it...but its menus are VERY counter intuitive.

Know a guy selling afew of these batteries - brand new - can get them for $120 each.

If you're keen for one or more let me know via PM, I am about to put an order for one for myself just to have in my daily. Could make for awesome GP setup potentially.
