Hi,
First post here.
I have just got my hands on a Morel Ultimo sub 4ohm. I'm Trying to work out what would be the best Amp to run this the best?

My system at the moment is getting a little old but consists of a clarion dxz946mp head unit, Morel Hybrid Ovation Front splits,
Morel Integra Ovation Rears. They are powered by a kenwood kac-x541.

I have found 3 that seem alright but still would be open to ideas.
Currently I'm looking at
Audison Lrx 1.1k
Audison Lrx 2.9
Eclipse ZA 1200

Thanks

Jason

Welcome. !

You should love this sub. I have the 2ohm model. For the 4ohm, I'd suggest a sealed box a little bigger than what Morel may suggest, and go with 1.5cuft/42L nett internal volume.

I personally prefer class AB amplifiers to class D, so would cross the Eclipse off the list. Then, I prefer monoblocks to bridged 2-channel amps where possible, so from those 3, I recommend the Audison LRx1.1K. It's simply a great amp from all reports (I have used other Audison amps for years).

I run mine off a Sinfoni 100.2spx bridged 2-channel, but these amps are hard to find (I presume they will be special-order from a local retailer; mine was from the US).

Others I suggest shortlisting include:
*Genesis Profile Sub Ultra 550WRMS @ 4ohm
*DLS Ultimate A6 500WRMS @ 4ohm
*Arc Audio class H KS1000.1 850WRMS @ 4ohm
*Arc Audio 2150SE 2-channel 600WRMS @ 4ohm bridged

You can go and see Mark at Frankston Car Audio for Genesis and DLS.

If you particularly want class D for the extra efficiency, then I'd suggest the JL Audio HD750/1.

currently atm I'm using a Hertz EP1D amplifier, now unfortunately Ive recently found out that they are a discontinued model but they arent a bad amplifier to use if you can get a hold of 2 and link them to give you the power behind the sub. I'm searching for a 2nd one atm as we speak

That is an interesting amp.
How does it go from 300 per channel to 1200x1 at 4 ohm?
The only concern that I have is the sub is rated for 1000rms but the amp for 1200 is this going to be a problem with overpowering the sub?

Never a problem when setup properly. An amp is not a light switch: no power then full power. You have the 'gain' control, and of course the volume control. Have the gain set properly, and you won't be delivering the amp's full power. And on lower power amps, proper gain settings will prevent clipping.

btw, the Mosconi 300.2 bridges to 1100WRMS @ 4ohm.

In the ideal world, and will produce 4x the power when bridged (@ 4ohm). That is, when dropping the impedence from 4ohm per channel to 2ohm per channel, the amp would double its power output. But due to power supply saturation and less than 100% perfect efficiency, that doesn't happen. For an amp to come even close is very impressive, suggesting either the manufacturer is being conservative, or the internal power supply and capacitors are over-engineered for the application. Hence, better amps cost more.

Would I be correct in thinking that i would be better getting an amp that will give this sub as much power as it needs to get the most out of it?
I just found this on the Mosconi website about the AS300.2

(*) VERY IMPORTANT NOTE - READ CAREFULLY4 Ohm ST or 8 Ohm BTL – CONTINUOUS SINEWAVE SIGNAL - pure resistive load or speaker load
2 Ohm ST or 4 Ohm BTL – MUSICAL SIGNAL - pure resistive load or speaker load
1 Ohm ST or 2 Ohm BTL – MUSICAL SIGNAL - speaker load only

Can anybody explain this for me?

It means if you're going to play sine waves, like for SPL comps, then they say not to load the amp below 4ohm per channel (or 8ohm bridged). It'd be because the amp would get very hot, and probably shut down; hence, be 'unreliable' in terms of keeping on going.

But for playing music, you can load it down to 1ohm per channel (or 2ohm bridged) if you wanted.

ST = stereo
BTL = bridge tied load (aka 'bridged')

Probably can't. But you can contact Rick (member mad89) in SYD to arrange something. PM him.
