Fair enough, but all mention of MDF has been qualified by talk of it being painted/deadened/otherwise weather sealed - so I'm wondering is it just a weather resistance/durability thing or if there are other properties coming into play that I should be aware of...

i use 3mm rigid pvc. jigsaw cuts it like butter, easier to shape with rough sandpaper, waterproof, thin, black, strong.
the guys at Phatt Audio Concepts got me onto it.

does make sense to use the PVC unless you already have some mdf laying around.

would 3 ply work for sealing service holes too? i've got a spare half sheet of it laying around that i dont need so figured i could use that instead of spending more money, i'd be waterproofing it and whacking a bit of sound deadener on it (just the spray on type stuff)

ply is fine. the onlt reason its not more commonly used is because its more exspensive and harder to work with, but if it's lying around, go for it! :good:
