I think the class H switching design only refers to the SE4000 amp which I assume is only good for driving subs given that it has 4000w of output at 1 ohm load.

From what I can gather the other SE amps are still pure class A/B.

Completely incorrect statement.

Hmm, when they first came out I remember ARC listed them as "Class T technology" or someting similar on their website description. The reason I specifically remember this is because I was highly intrigued by them at the time but then was turned off when I saw the Class T part asmy 1500XXK (which was class T) was giving me some dramas at the time.

Maybe the design was since changed, or original initial description was incorrect - this was quite a few years ago when I saw it.

I have also read from other forums that the DLS Ultimate series aren't as "Nice Sounding" as the Reference series, which I find quite strange given that the Ultimate series is the top of the range. It can't just be based on looks and not performance.

Doesn't surprise me, wouldn't be the first time I've seen a company release a flagship product that performed worse then a lower series one.

Perfect examples are the Seas Millenium and Crescendo tweeters which cost about $500 and $700 resectively (per pair) - they are stunningly build and very pretty to look at, but they get thoroughly outperformed by Seas' own $120/pair Prestige model (27TBFCG).

Marketing is everything, especially at the uber expensive "look at how big my d*ck is!" end of the market. People who spend big money often want something that is shiny, and heavy, and chunky, and pretty - something they only need to look at or hold to convince themselves that it was money worth spent. So often it's just about making the customer feel special as much as it is about actually building a product that performs.

The only real difficult thing is that there are a lot of good reviews of the ARC SE series amp but not so much on the DLS amps. I think the DLS are more renowned for their speakers than they are for amps. And vice versa for ARC, who are more renowned for their amps than they are for their speakers.

I'd argue quite the opposite - I've never once heard a DLS speaker that I thought sounded any good. I have far more faith in DLS amps then I do in their speakers, which IMO are overpriced and udnerperforming.

If you google around you'll find quite a bit of info around about the DLS amplifiers, they are pretty popular overseas especially.

I have no real world input but I'd buy the DLS because it is made in Sweden, I love companies that keep production in their home countries.

Although DLS is a Swedish company I think you'll find their amps are actually made in asia - I seem to recall this being the case for their Reference line last I checked, and I'm pretty sure it was also true for the Ultimate series. I have been wrong before though so if anyone knows otherwise please feel free to correct me!

His name is Robert Zeff, and the SE's are A/B.

So does that mean you like them now? :P

This news combined with the price drops means I'm not actually turned off them anymore. I still wouldn't go so far as to say 'like' though. I'd still choose either the Tru Billets or Helix A-series over them if money were no object, and then the price difference I'd have a lot of trouble justifying them over the DLS Reference also.

At least I don't hate them now though, right? :D

Pete, just to clarify, you're referring to the 'Seas Crescendo' tweeters with the above comment (these: http://www.seas.no/i...id=59&Itemid=83 ), and not actual 'Crescendo' branded tweeters?

Yes, I am indeed.

I imagine that either one of those three Seas models would proabably comfortably outperform the actual Crescendo branded tweeters. This is pure speculation though - call it a gut feeling.

Not to go too far off topic, but have you listened to any Crescendo speakers Pete? :)

Nope, that's why I said to put it down to a hunch :)

*Snip*

I have snipped the rest of this message Rick and will send you the rest in a PM to explain my hunch. I didn't want to create another inappropriate and annoying Pete essay and send this thread off it's rails :)
